fuzz lightyear's new single 'aberfan' came out today, and this one is especially close to me personally. you can't hear it in my accent, but i'm welsh and a proud welshman too.
growing up, my friends and i would think of aberfan and tryweryn, under the great tory shadow cast by westminster, in the coal sooted valleys of glamorgan, and know that we lived in a society not built for us - but for the rich and the few.
for me and a lot of the people i grew up around, aberfan is a point of radicalisation. it was the turning point in a mental revolution. it is a reason to keep up the fight.
i'm proud of this song. it's a little old, and a little stale, but it means as much now as it did when we made it some years ago.
thanks
(also these photos are from mine nd elle's recent trip to aberystwyth, not too far from the tryweryn memorial.)
________
mae can newydd fuzz lightyear 'aberfan' yn allan heddiw, a mae hon yn un sydd yn agos ato fi ym mhersonol. ti ffili clywed e yn fy acen, ond rydw i'n cymraeg, a chymry falch hefyd.
pryd o'n i'n codi, odd fi a fy ffrindiau yn meddwl amdano aberfan a dryweryn, o dan y cysgod tory mawr, yn y huddygl glo cwmoedd morgannwg a gwybod roeddem ni'n byw yng ngymdeithas na oedd wedi cael ei adeiladu am ni - ond am y gyfoethog a'r anaml.
am fi a'r pobl wnai tyfu lan gyda my aberfan yn pwynt o radicaleiddio. o'dd e'n amser troi yn y chwldro ymenydd. o'dd e'n rheswm i cario mlan yr ymladd.
rydw i'n falch o'r can hon. mae'n fach yn hen, ond mae'n olygu yr un faint nawr a odd e'n meddwl pryd wnawn ni creu fe rhyw flynyddoedd yn nol.
diolch.
