I very much enjoyed, and feel proud, to have taken part in the Porthcawl RNLI Lifeboat Samtampa Memorial 7km Run this morning 🙏 🙌 It also feels like a very good way to mark my 1-year anniversary since joining RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station - I’m currently training for my Tier 1 Crew Assessment 💪 🌊 Samtampa Memorial Run 2026: On 23rd April 1947, the SS Samtampa was lost off Sker Point, taking 47 lives, including 8 brave RNLI crew members who launched into impossible conditions to save others. This April, we run to honour their courage, remember every life lost, and raise vital funds for the RNLI who continue that lifesaving mission. The route begins at the harbour end of the Eastern Promenade, travels past the Samtampa Memorial at Rest Bay, and finishes beside Porthcawl Lifeboat Station — a fitting tribute from start to finish. #RNLI #RNLIPenarth #RNLIPorthcawl @rnlipenarth @porthcawlrnli
