It’s been a fun weekend watching our friends at #universityofsouthcarolina and #coastalcarolinauniversity deploy their autonomous robot catamaran. “Robo Kitty”. One of several pieces of equipment they’ve brought aboard RV Savannah on a mission to chase down fresh water plumes leaving our rivers. That little thing is armed with an array of instruments helping map that waters journey to the deeper ocean. Why? Lots of reasons.
1. Nobody knows jack.
2. The physics of that process are fascinating. At least according to these guys it is but I’m liable to believe them. 🤷♂️
3. Soylent Green. If you haven’t seen the movie, the moral of the story is, “ know where your algae comes from”.
4. Fish?🤷♂️
5. These guys don’t care about fish or Algae or anything like that. This equipment is helping them understand the intricacies of that mixing process. Period. It’s way complex and maybe one day it can help us with the fish and that other stuff.
