Mexico City’s hottest churros just landed in LA 👀
In this episode of First Bite, social video producer Annie Harrigan (@annieharrigan ) is joined by correspondent Matthew Kang (@mattatouille ), editor Mona Holmes (@monaeats ), and associate editor Ben Mesirow (@benmesirow ) to see if Los Angeles's first location of iconic churrería El Moro (@elmoro_usa ) is worth the long lines, and if they beat the churros at Disneyland 😮.
Oh hey more photos from the end of January! Mostly coffee, with some food and a lone shot from a special dinner @majordomola .
(photo volume not representative of objective or subjective quality - everything here was good but damn MajorD is awesome)
Finally had a moment to finish updating one of my favorite lists @thrillist : new restaurants. Man there’s some cool stuff opening these days.
In fact, there are so many new places that this barely scratches the surface of restaurants that have opened since my last update, but did my best to highlight spots about which I’m particularly excited right now. Hopefully less time will elapse before the next update so this thing can remain a little more comprehensive.
That is to say, I’m sure I left off your favorite spot. I’m sorry.
Had this in drafts but forgot to post how much I love @yangbanla . I actually (embarrassingly) hadn’t been since they took out the deli case (long ago), and I won’t let nearly so long elapse between repeat visits this time. This was a stunning, stunning dinner. Hard to capture in pix because it’s so dark and moody and lovely in there now but trust me everything is gorgeous.
An absolute privilege to fight traffic all the way across town to eat @ladyhawkweho a couple weeks ago. Very impressed with the mezze, of course, and the steak and the crudo and the drinks and the vibe etc, but the man’oushe is a true showstopper.
It’s more than enough reason to come on its own, if the entire cast of a reality show filming there then hanging out at the bar afterwards wasn’t enough to draw you in.
Even in the already super fun izakaya category, @budonokila stands out - what a great time this place is.
It’s rowdy and stylish, with a tight menu full of bangers that lean bright and sharp in a really good way. Loved the Negima (galangal sauce!) and the Naem especially, but it’s all so great. Don’t miss the soft serve either, there’s a neon soft serve sign on the wall so you know they mean business.
