Since designing the HOWIE fashion store in Covent Garden in 1977 with its perforated steel panels behind the glass entrance doors, Ben has used this mechanical perforating process to create different mesh patterns across a number of different materials and projects.
The two silk screen Mesh Prints – in Bronze and Silver are in homage to the Harco Products Diamond Jubilee catalogue (1974-1934).

Today marks the 75th Anniversary of the Festival of Britain. To commemorate this, we look back at ‘Enclosure’ (2011) at the Southbank Centre.
The installation formed a part of the ‘Land’ themed section of the Southbank Centre’s (@southbankcentre ) Festival of Britain 60th Anniversary Celebrations. A response to the visual patchwork of enclosed spaces framed by handmade walls that shape the British Landscape, Ben Kelly’s ‘Enclosure’ comprised three separate walls, each built with techniques and stone native to three different parts of Britain – South Wales (Blue Pennant sandstone), the Lake District (Borrowdale volcanic) and Scotland (Whinstone).
