It’s been over ten years since I last made a short film. Although I’ve made 1000s of pieces of content for different brands since, it felt really special to create something for myself, a story I’d written with no client approvals meetings or client feedback rounds. It felt doubly special to create a film with old friends and some new ones in an incredible cast and crew. One of the skills I feel I really have developed over the years since the last short is dealing with the chaos that comes with filming, which came in especially handy whilst directing toddlers and having the police evacuate the area behind our location. Excited to cut this together now. Puddles a short film - coming soon.

Some more stills from our short film Puddles. These ones from our incredible DP @michaelacedeno . It was amazing to work with so many talented people in all departments. But these pictures really showcase the phenomenal costumes designed by @oliviarosehulme

It was great to see Puddles on the big screen one final time at the Crystal Palace International Film Festival last night.
As someone who’s made lots of stuff for little screens over the years it’s extra special seeing something I’ve made on a big screen with an audience… Especially when the audience laughs where I wanted them too.
I’m super proud of how this little film has found an audience at lots of festivals over the last year and grateful to all the amazing people who helped bring it to life.

Puddles is coming home to Crystal Palace. 📍🗼🦕
I had an amazing time last week at the launch of the Crystal Palace International Film Festival, connecting with other filmmakers.
On Thursday March 19th at 7.30 Puddles will be screening along with three shorts and a feature at the West Norwood Picturehouse.
This is the last chance to catch it on the big screen so head to the festival website for tickets. Hopefully see you there.
P.S. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with none other than Lucius Malfoy himself, the legendary Jason Isaacs.

🎬 Final submission deadline reminder - Must close this Sunday!
We always love to hear from alumni filmmakers about what they’ve been up to, and in Director Ben Ryder’s case it was a connection that took us right back to the our first edition. As part of our inaugural festival I n 2015 we showed MRS KAYE and last year for our 10th anniversary edition we welcomed back Ben with his latest short PUDDLES, a funny and frantic film about the societal expectations put upon parents.
We’re glad he still thinks we’ve got it after all this time!
All submissions are open now - Find out more and take part at: Filmfreeway.com/SunderlandShorts
I had an absolutely fantastic couple of days at Focus London this week.
It was wonderful to see some old friends, meet new ones, and hear insights from some inspiring panels.
I loved the practical tips on AI filmmaking and film financing. Now I just need a story to make the most of the Tokyo and Nepalese film boards.
P.S. I was also slightly creeped up by this fake baby technology.
