My birthday is coming up in just over a week. I’ll be turning 3!! Our foster kitten Dot is super sweet and loves petting but she’s really hates when Mom and Dad kiss her. So we’re trying to teach her by example. She’s not buying it! For those of you who haven’t met him yet, this is Bud. We’ve been caring for this gentle 10 year old diabetic boy at Butterscotch Castle Rescue. Yesterday, he collapsed and had a seizure due to dangerously low blood sugar. We rushed him to emergency care at LAASER Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Glendale, CA. Thankfully, we got him there just in time for the wonderful team at LAASER to get him stable. Let me back up. Bud came to us under heartbreaking circumstances. His mom traveled to Palestine to visit family—and when the conflict escalated after October 7, she was forced to flee for her life. She couldn’t come back for him. She asked us to keep him safe. Now he needs us more than ever. The good news: Bud is improving. He’s alert, eating, and asking for affection again. He can make a full recovery. But after the seizure, he appears to have lost his vision. We’re not sure if it’s partial or full, temporary or permanent. What we do know is that he will need follow up visits with specialists. To make matters worse, his emergency care bill for two nights at the hospital is $4,900. We’re a tiny rescue. Financially, we’re in the red. That’s where you come in. Her adoption fees will be completely covered! Tala is one of 3 three seniors we have at @butterscotchcastlerescue looking for a home. Tala is super sweet, not picky about food, loves petting, and has no special needs. She doesn’t groom herself well, in part because she only has one tooth. But she loves brushing and is really good about haircuts and even shaving when she needs it. She loves petting and playing with mouse toys. Tala used to live on the streets of downtown LA all the way from kittenhood until she was 4-5 years old when we rescued her. She gave us one huge health scare early on when she had a benign growth on her thyroid. But her thyroid was removed and she’s been super happy and super healthy ever since! Hi Freinds! I have an URGENT plea: we need fosters! We want to be able to help with this situation but we need fosters for some of our current rescue cats if we want to do it! A staggering number of cats and dogs were rescued from a property in Lake Hughes, CA early this morning. Approximately 400 dog and 300 cats! this is going to put a huge strain on the already overstretched public shelter and non-profit rescue system in Southern California, not unlike the strain caused by displaced animals during the January 2025 wildfires that devastated Los Angeles. To do our part and help ease the burden, we need more fosters for our current rescues so we can ourselves have the capacity to get cats from the shelters. If you have space and means to open your home to even one foster cat, or even better to adopt, please visit our website or fill out a foster and adoption application from the links in our bio. We especially need an urgent foster for two maltese/pekingese older puppy siblings named Bo and Bear. We need to find them a foster within the week! And please DM me with any questions! He’s eating well and letting his foster pet him. This is a testament to how shelter environments can be scary, loud, and confusing. Many cats show fear-based behaviors that don’t reflect their true personalities. Giving them a chance outside the shelter allows them to blossom and start trusting again. now that Lefty has finally found his forever home, it’s time to tell Lefty’s story. You probably won’t believe me, but here goes. Lefty originally came to us after a night of TNR (trap, neuter and return of stray and feral cats). I could tell when he was in the trap that he was probably friendly, but the rescue i volunteered for at the time had no space. And our home was full of our own cats and some fosters as well. So I planned for him to be returned after he recovered. After he had had a day to recover, i drove Lefty and about a dozen other street cats back to the locations where i had trapped them. Lefty was from the furthest south in south LA so i saved him for last. Normally when i open the trap to release a cat, they take off running—happy to finally be free again. but not Lefty. He didn’t go anywhere. Lefty casually walked out of the trap, looked at me, and started meowing. So i assumed he just needed more food. He followed me as i walked to my car and when i opened the door to get some food, he just jumped right in. He was telling me that he didn’t belong there. so i took him home, gave him a bath, and set him up in the bathroom. But he kept me awake all night, meowing his big head off from the bathroom. eventually i decided to let him out so i could sleep and he immediately came and got in bed with me, Benjamin, and Bruno. He was ready to be a house cat. now you’re probably saying to yourself, cat distribution system at work! but the thing is, our house was full already. we could not adopt anyone else. i was happy to foster him and find him a home though! but as time dragged on, one, two, and three years went by, and no one ever applied for him. it was okay though. he was a sweet and very healthy cat who fit right in and didn’t cause problems. he was welcome to stay. cut to this past Christmas and something of a Christmas miracle happened. someone had seen a photo of Lefty on petfinder and fallen in love with him immediately. He submitted his application and said he wasn’t interested in anyone else. Lefty was the one. and his family was the perfect match! We love you Lefty.
