Every fighter should be training their grip directly, just don’t forget that this is an accessory and cannot replace your compound lifts

TLDR; Getting stronger in the gym won’t improve your chocking mechanics, but it WILL make you squeeze harder.
While you may think a good squeeze only comes down to grip and arm strength, having a strong back and general upper body is going to play a massive roll in this.
Specific goals should never overtake general strength training in the gym, as you want to be as efficient with your training as possible. I’ve included an example workout of what I’d do with one of my fighters
@benjamin_yr
I lost my first 11 matches in a row. I’d spend all day on the mats trying to improve, neglecting the lowest hanging fruit… strength training
Although I’m not training full time anymore or competing at the moment. Learn from the mistakes of my younger self and get in the gym a few times a week

He did it against Adesanya, and now he’s done it against Chimaev
This video is not meant to take away from Sean’s win in any way, or meant as a personal attack to anyone in Khamzat’s team. In my opinion the better man won.
I just don’t understand how a professional fighter of this caliber, at this level, can enter fight week 21kg overweight.
Ilia Topuria is one of the best and most hard working fighters to ever do it.
Apart from obviously becoming an expert in different forms of combat, his strength and conditioning is world class.
While we don’t have exact templates to his workouts, we have lots of clips and videos of what he does day to day. I’ve put together a sample workout of how I would put together these exercises.

Stop buying into the fear mongering that the gym is going to make you LESS athletic, that’s literally a psyop
You should train like the athlete you don’t want to go up against
*adjust macro amounts to your own goals/needs
PSA: this post doesn’t represent the entirety of what your diet should look like.
Michael Phelps famously ate a mostly processed food diet to meet his calorie demands. Usain Bolt ate 50 chicken nuggets the night before his world record 100m.
You aren’t a world class athlete and should probably focus more on a healthy whole foods diet, rather than copying the pros
Above all else, don’t stop training, and don’t stop improving
Get you ass in the gym.

“Technique beats strength”
But what happens when the strong guy is just as technical as you😂
You need BOTH
