Making stuff and portfolios
Over the last few months, I've been slowly finishing a new version of my personal website. Creating a small space on the internet for yourself is really fun, and I'd encourage anyone interested in exploring the materiality of the web to do so too.
I presented this website in a portfolio pitch competition hosted by @ual_ces a couple weeks ago, it motivated me to finally finish the prototype. I am honored that it got first place, and to me that shows a bit of the appreciation that is still given to thoughtfully crafted design artefacts.
"I am making stuff" is really just an expression of my desire to bring new ideas to the world. As I progress through my MA, this desire is expanding to include a more critical approach to how designed technologies are affecting our lives, and what human-centered design really means. I'll eventually share more about this on my website, but first my next step is figuring out how to self-host it. Let's go.
Today we explored automatic writing + collages + marginalia.
I am not usually into traditional/manual mediums, but this was really fun.
Text excerpts from Automation is a Myth (Munn, 2022) and The Creative Gene (Kojima, 2021); both really interesting for completely different reasons.
I had this cool idea of making a presentation that looked like it was inside a file system / terminal inspired by macOS.
Explored it in my first MA submission, trying to give the content more context and make the presentation itself an interesting piece of design.
Tenho novidades!
