5 years ago, i was turning 22 with a dream of starting my own business. today, i’m 6 weeks away from celebrating 5 years of actually doing it in a very real, messy, build it from the ground up, figure it out as you go kind of way. i’ve moved locations more times than i can count, made some iconic decisions and some questionable ones, serviced hundreds of clients, built friendships that changed my life, cried (a lot), questioned myself (also a lot), held my life together while my husband was incarcerated, became a mom, and kept growing through all of it. this milestone represents a lot. because today, on my 27th birthday, i can say i am living the life 22 year old me dreamed about. soo... in honor of 5 years of lilac moon (formally katie b hair, s/o to my OGs bc you’re the reason we’re here), i’m throwing a hell of a birthday party. i’m hosting milwaukee’s fundraiser of the summer. because HOT GIRLS GIVE BACK! on june 14 (the actual anniversary!), we’re taking over @phoenix360_events for an afternoon that’s giving boujee sweet 16 vibes, but make it community, connection, and actual impact. THE VISION: -a vendor fair featuring local women owned businesses -a food truck + custom drink menu -a room full of like minded people you want to get to know -over a dozen giveaway prizes that slay all while we chase our goal of raising $5,000 for @benedictcenterwi , an organization doing hands on work supporting women in our community navigating incarceration, reentry, and rebuilding their lives. I am so excited and proud to be using this milestone, my platform, and my business, to do something that fcking matters. so let’s CELEBRATE YALL!!!!! bc if you’ve ever supported my business, this is your party as much as it is mine! RSVP link live in my bio NOW!!!💜🌙

More than 700 organizations — including victim service providers, advocacy organizations, and justice system partners from across the country — are calling on Senate leadership to act. The Crime Victims Fund is the primary source of funding for services that support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, trafficking, and other crimes. Yet today, the CVF is nearly depleted, putting critical, lifesaving services and victims’ lives at risk. Communities are already feeling the impact. Programs have been forced to reduce services, lay off staff, and, in some cases, close their doors entirely. Without immediate action, more survivors will be left without the support they need to stay safe, heal, and rebuild their lives. The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act offers a bipartisan, commonsense solution to stabilize the CVF using non-taxpayer dollars, ensuring continuity of services while Congress works toward a long-term fix. The House has acted, and now, 700 organizations are urging the Senate to do the same: pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act now. Survivors can’t afford delays. @leaderjohnthune @senschumer @senatorchuckgrassley @senatordurbin

As we close out Women's History Month, we honor the women who advocate for a more equitable justice system, those who have the power to rebuild their lives, and those who have made that support possible, not just here in Milwaukee, but across the country. For over 50 years, we have believed in one truth: women deserve the support to rebuild their lives, and a community that believes in them can transform everything. We know so many women like Susan Burton. After navigating the revolving door of incarceration herself, Susan founded A New Way of Life, a reentry program rooted in the same belief we carry every day at The Benedict Center. We think of Tarana Burke, whose life's work exposing sexual violence and systemic harm has spoken truth to power, expanded access to resources for survivors, and demanded that every woman be treated with dignity, regardless of race, class, or circumstance. Their work is our work. We believe women can claim their voices, rebuild their lives, and lead on their own terms. We know it because we see it every day.

Across Milwaukee, conversations about safety often focus on enforcement. But for women navigating the street-based sex trade, the reality is far more complex. At the Benedict Center, we believe stability is public safety. Meaningful solutions begin with understanding the full picture. Join us for a virtual conversation: From Crisis to Care: Rethinking Safety for Women in Our Neighborhoods Wednesday, April 15th, 2026 12:00 to 1:00 PM Virtual - Zoom This 60-minute session includes a 45-minute discussion followed by time for questions and conversation. We’ll explore the realities of the street-based sex trade, the work of the Sisters Program, and how communities can play a role in creating safer, more supportive responses. RSVP by April 12th to reserve your spot. workforgood.com/forms/2026-april-benedict-center-insider-event?hid=MTY5OTIwNjQ=&utm_campaign=dms_email_blast_4551566 Be part of a more thoughtful approach to public safety.

The Benedict Center invites you to a Friends of the Benedict Center Luncheon focused on our leadership in advancing Housing First as a public health response for women involved in the street-based sex trade. We will share how our Sisters Program helps lead and inform Housing First efforts in Milwaukee County, ensuring women involved in the street-based sex trade can access housing without preconditions and begin addressing trauma, substance use, and long-term goals. As funding for this vital system faces uncertainty, we invite you into a timely conversation about why Housing First works, how the Benedict Center advances it through advocacy and partnership, and what it will take to protect a public health approach that truly saves lives. We hope you will join us for this meaningful conversation and your continued partnership in this work.
