In a previous life, I worked as an efficiency consultant. That world could not be further removed from the experimental work I now pursue with care and love.
Glassblowing is a true craft. And craftsmanship requires a great deal of experience, especially in a process that revolves around experimentation.
The design of ‘Crystal Clear’ was preceded by many experimental sessions, and not all of them were successful. With patience and perseverance, something beautiful emerges. It is precisely the unexpected elements that make the process, and therefore the work, so interesting.
Without spontaneity and experimentation, even the most efficient processes cannot improve. The properties of glass and the choice of design bring those elements of surprise together perfectly.
‘Crystal Clear’ is not a production piece. Each object is made with the same level of attention, making every single piece unique.

In een vorig leven heb ik gewerkt als efficiëntie consultant, dat leven kan niet verder afstaan van het experimentele waar ik nu met aandacht en liefde aan werk.
Glasblazen is een echte ambacht. En ambacht vraagt veel ervaring, zeker voor een proces dat om experimenteren gaat.
Aan het uiteindelijke ontwerp van ‘Glashelder’ zijn veel experimenteer sessies vooraf gegaan en niet alles was even succesvol. Met geduld en doorzettingsvermogen komt wel iets moois.
Juist de onverwachte elementen maken het proces en daarmee het werk interessant. Zonder spontaniteit en experiment kunnen ook de efficiënte processen niet verbeteren. De eigenschappen van glas en de keuze van het ontwerp brengen precies die verrassingselementen bij elkaar.
'Glashelder' is geen productiewerk. Ieder object is met evenveel aandacht gemaakt en daarmee is ieder object uniek.

Glassblowing is teamwork!
And what a team there is in Leerdam. Not only highly skilled craftspeople, but above all wonderful people. Not just the glassblowers, but everyone who makes it possible to work there: from the volunteers at the ticket desk, shop, and cleaning, to the grinder, announcer, and anyone else I may be forgetting.
The glass furnaces run day and night, and just as hard work is done to give designers and the public a great experience.

Glasblazen is teamwerk!
En wat een team is er in Leerdam. Niet alleen hele bekwame vaklui maar vooral leuke mensen.
Niet alleen de blazers, maar ook iedereen die het mogelijk maken daar te werken, van de vrijwilligers bij de kassa, winkel en voor de schoonmaak, de slijper, omroeper en wie ik dan ook nog mag vergeten.
De glasovens staan dag en nacht aan en er word al net zo hard gewerkt om de ontwerpers en het publiek een goede ervaring te geven.
