We had an excellent turn out for the Bend Bikeways Reveal ride yesterday! Over 60 participants came out to learn and test out the new diverters and participate in some productive discussions. Thanks @cityofbendoregon , @commuteoptions and @vamonos_outside for leading the ride and helping to coordinate. We look forward to more engagement as the Bend Bikeways take shape.
Lets keep the conversation going! If you live in Riverwest neighborhood, the @riverwestna will be hosting a transportation-focused meeting next week to continue discussing the Diverters and the Galveston project: Tuesday, May 12, 6:00pm at the Sons of Norway Hall.
Come join Bend Bikes, Commute Options, the City of Bend and Vamonos Outside for a fun and informative ride on May 5! We will be touring and testing out the new diverters installed along the Bend Bikeways. The ride meets at city hall at 5:00pm, departs at 5:30 and finishes at 7:00 at Papi Chulos.
Thanks to everyone who joined our Bike Bus this weekend! The event was a huge success with over 50 participants of all ages and abilities riding together in celebration of community and clean transportation. Thanks @railstotrails for helping support the ride and our outreach at the @envirocenterbend Earth Day Fair afterwards! #BikeBus #CelebrateTrails

Bend Residents Wake to New Reality on City Streets
Bend residents awoke this morning to a surprising sight. Overnight, many of the city’s streets have been dramatically transformed. In an effort to prioritize the safety and well-being of all its citizens and preserve the livability of the city for years to come, it appears that the city’s transportation and engineering departments have joined forces with contractors, community organizations and neighborhood groups to build dozens of miles of human-centered pedestrian and bicycling facilities all across the high desert town. In place of painted bike lanes along busy collectors and arterials, brand new off-street paths, protected bike lanes and wide shared-use sidewalks buffered by plantings of native shrubs and pollinator gardens have sprung up across town overnight.
Follow the link below for more details (and a real world example)!

A new Oregon bill just lowered the legal age to ride class 1 electric bikes from 16 to 14! This is a step in the right direction that will effectively expand e-bike access to all high schoolers in the state. HB 4007 also adds some important regulations for high powered imposter e-bikes or e-motos.

A big thank you to the @cityofbendoregon street sweeper crews for putting one of the mini sweepers to work on the Portland Avenue bike lanes last week. It is a pleasure to bike along a clean, protected lane through the safe intersection at Wall and onto the excellent new raised bike lane at Olney. Imagine the joy and ease of biking if we had safe and well maintained bike corridors like this connected all across Bend!
We are recruiting for Board of Directors! 🚲
