Good Friday at 4am I had to say farewell to my little 17 year old furry bundle of joy, sweet Lilli. We’d been inseparable since she came into my life courtesy of @battersea all those years ago, most nights curling up in my arms and purring like a tractor til morning. I’m going to miss her so much, she’s been quite the companion. Rest in peace my little Lills xx 💔
That old proverb “never meet your heroes” so didn’t apply this afternoon when @toyahofficial and @robertfrippofficial came to the Man And Boy matinee. My inner 16 year old has been somersaulting all day and night. What a joy it was to sit down and chat with these two beacons of light. 9 months since my last post, nine months without Ian. It’s been a journey for sure. It’s been a time of wonderful friends and family. A time of negotiating the wild beast that is grief (side note-if anyone finds themselves in the same position as I was where the ‘five stages of grief’ are meaningless, I can say that @juliasamuelmbe and @drlucyhone gave me the tools I needed to rebuild a new life) A time of messages of comfort from total strangers, all so appreciated. And here I am in Bath about to do my first preview of Doubt. It’s the first job I’ve done since Ian passed and it’s been so special, a fantastic company and a brilliant play. It’s the the first time in over 30 years I haven’t had Ian in the audience for the first preview (we would always try and shift everything so we could be there for each others’ first preview and opening nights) To have your special person cheering you on is one of the most comforting things in the middle of the mayhem and I’m feeling that loss tremendously - it’s been 9 months of such ‘firsts’ and just when I think there can’t be any more another pops up to be dealt with and assimilated into this new life. BUT in a glorious piece of serendipity I find myself in Ian’s dressing room when he was here in 2018 being wonderful as he always was. So I feel he’s around, not in a woo woo way, but part of his happy life and history was here. He’s part of the building. And I’m sure there’s a quantum mechanics theory where all events in history are happening simultaneously, so maybe he’s in this dressing room right now in a parallel universe! Or maybe that’s woowoo too! I found this picture of him in here and he looks so serene. It must have been one of those haircut checking photos and I’m so pleased I found it in his photo stream. It is with huge huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder. Ian was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December and yesterday he passed at 13.07. I’d stopped all work to be his carer but neither of us had any idea that it would all be so fast. He was my absolute rock and we’d been partners for more than 30 years. If we weren’t together we spoke to each other everyday. He was the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being. He was a wonderful wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without him by my side. He coped with his dreadful illness with such bravery, with no self pity. Ever. He was remarkable and will be so missed. This pic was taken at Christmas time after I’d got him out of hospital and even though he’d gone through the worst three weeks there you can still see his joy and love shining through. Rest well my sweet Chianni. Xxxx
