Please join us this Friday starting at 6 PM – close for opening night of ‘Almost Had It’ featuring original artwork from Ben Colen and Lee Smith – details below!
Our friends at
@cut_teeth_kingston reached out two months ago to see if we’d like to partner on an upcoming show featuring paintings by
@bencolen and
@leester415 . The idea was to kick things off in Kingston, NY and a few weeks thereafter, bring the show down to Brooklyn. While we cannot take credit for much of the heavy lifting, beyond lugging a case of wine north for the opening night, we’re beyond grateful for the shop to play host throughout the month of September. Resharing an overview typed up by James Harmon of Cut Teeth Gallery on each respective artist.
“Ben Colen has covered a lot of ground as a photographer. Chances are he has documented at least one of your heroes. He has undoubtedly captured history with his camera. However, this show is not about his photography. This show is about his drawings and paintings. Here, Ben captures the decisive moment with paint and pencil lead. We put this exhibition together as a way to celebrate this other side of Ben.
When Ben suggested bringing Lee Smith on board for this exhibition it doubled the intrigue. Lee brings his own observations to his canvases, pulling from his own experiences in skating that help inform how he approaches painting.”
