March is by far my favorite month for skiing as we tend to get the most snow and the most sun then. It’s also the most demanding on your skis. Good wax is essential I find @one_mfg is the best combination of performance/ price. Over the last 30 years I’ve used just about every wax iron including my moms clothes iron (that didn’t go well when she found out) This @wintersteiger_na iron is by far the best that I have found. It heats up fast and actually maintains an exact temp so you dont smoke your wax and your lungs. With the warmer temps in March it also makes sense to switch the base structure on your skis from a more linear or hex pattern to more of a thumb print style to better handle the varying snow temps and moisture. @benchmonkey has probably tuned more Olympian and World Cup skis than just about anyone else and now runs the @rennstall1 ski shop in @deervalleyresort in these images you can see the difference in base structures I had him grind for me on the Wintersteiger Jupiter machine. It’s amazing how many custom combinations are possible with it. Finally I find it’s super important to use a very sharp wax scraper so you don’t destroy the base structure. I like to use a fresh scraper for each set of skis I wax. Using either a power scraper sharpener (my favorite) or a travel carbide one allows you to maintain a fresh edge on your scrapers. Finally make sure you brush the skis after waxing to fully take advantage of the base structure benefits. I’m a big fan of using a Roto brush with my @festool_usa PDC drill as it offers a way higher RPM then most drills. @fischerski
A lot can change in 8 years... I’ve gone from chasing podiums to chasing a 5 year old. @alexchumpypullin has passed, RIP man. @lucaseguibar is World Champ. @benchmonkey is still the funniest guy I know. ✌🏻
