Welcome to Belonging Books ✨📚
What is Belonging Books? Belonging Books is a community bookstore that centers the voices and stories of people of color and other underrepresented people.
Our Mission: We create and hold space for joy, celebration, rest, and connection through books, events, and community gatherings.
Our Beginnings: We opened in 2022 as a pop-up bookstore, participating in value-aligned events and offering BIPOC-centered programs.
Our Founder: Erica Tso Haidas created Belonging Books with the goal to carve out a small sanctuary for people who feel like they live in the grey spaces.
Growing Together. As part of the Arts & Justice Collective, we’ve built partnerships, hosted joyful gatherings, and uplifted historically-excluded voices across Cape Cod.
Our Home: Now rooted at 438 Main Street in Hyannis, we are proud to offer a gathering place for book clubs, writing circles, open mics, and more.

Erica Lee Smith - Bookseller & Receiver: Hello! I’m ‘the other’ Erica you’ll find here at Belonging Books. I’m a freelance writer who lives in Cotuit with my husband, my kids, and our dog, Bodhi. I’m so excited to be part of the Belonging Books team because I know firsthand the transformative power books can have, and I’m thrilled to help connect people with their next great read.
Evie - Bookseller: Hi! My name is Evie and I am a junior at Sturgis East. I love swimming at the beach and journaling, as well as sketching. I enjoy spending time organizing books, helping customers, and keeping things clean in the bookstore. I also love the environment Belonging Books creates and how comfortable I am around everyone.
Kai Barrows - Bookseller & Creative: Hi, I’m Kai, an artist, educator, and lifelong book lover! As an illustrator, I’m passionate about the power of storytelling and visual narratives. Whether it’s stocking a new graphic novel or helping my community connect with stories that resonate, I’m thrilled to be here!
Alexis Charles - Marketing Coordinator: Hi! I’m Alexis, a writer and videographer who loves building community through storytelling and art. My work focuses on accessibility, authenticity, and helping people feel seen both online and in person! I created Belonging Books because I wanted a space where people feel seen, valued and heard. My family is my anchor — they keep me moving and striving to make this place our home.

Poetry and Performance workshops start June 1st!
This four-part, 16-week experience welcomes writers of all levels, especially beginners who are curious about poetry, storytelling, and performance.
We meet on Mondays at 6pm at Belonging Books. 438 Main Street, Hyannis. Check the website for details. .
Participants journey through four connected workshops, each workshop is 4 weeks long: Poetry 101, Poetry & Performance, Slam Poetry I, and Slam Poetry II. Workshops build skills, confidence, and a creative voice. You’ll write, share, experiment, and learn in a supportive group environment that values curiosity over perfection and encourages everyone to be themselves!

It’s time for another Defining Moments Book Club at Belonging Books tomorrow!

This book invites us to think again about economics, and imagine another way of relating to one another based on generosity, kindness, interconnectedness, and restraint. At Belonging Books, we stand by the fact that reading is a political act. Diverse stories shape how we understand the world and people in it by seeing, valuing, and remembering the lives of others.
April is recognized for a number of month-long observances, and one of those that we are highlighting in store is Arab-American Heritage Month.
Celebrate with us by checking out a diverse range of Arab and Arab-American voices across genres, with a particular focus on Palestinian authors whose stories continue to be marginalized, supporessed, and underrepresented in many spaces.
