What a gift from Shaun Leisher!
This play is for everybody, playwright or otherwise, who struggles to be seen and finds themselves knocking on doors that never seem to open. Keep knocking.
I agree with Shaun! I’ll forever mourn the loss of this play. Two productions (a dual world premiere!) disappeared in 2020 and never materialized. Sadly, it seems like the moment for this play has come and gone (as has the capacity for 12-actor plays). If you want to produce a large cast, multigenerational play with Our Town vibes, you know where to find me (in the corner weeping about Welcome to Keene, NH).
🗓️ Join us TOMORROW for a special Alley Stage Reading Series event, featuring a new play by Brian James Polak at 4 PM.
🎭 Former theater makers convene a meeting in a near-future, fascist America, when all forms of art (and even the utterance of any art-related words) have been banned. These artists discuss what a person is to do in a world when one’s purpose has been eradicated. Both the artists and attendees of The Meeting begin to learn even the most fascist society can never stop people from being who they truly are. Featuring local actors and community members Nathan Gieseke, Ashley Calderon-McHugh, Kayla Beck, Christina Harrington, Heather Harris, and Judy DeVido, The Meeting will engage us all in important conversations about the role of art and what matters.

So much love for this group of actors and director for putting their entire hearts and bodies into The Meeting. They launched this play in LA last summer and decided they wanted to bring it to New York, which is no simple or affordable task. But they did it along with @theatreunleashed ’s Greg Crafts and Jenn Scuderi Crafts. What a gift to a playwright to have a group of people care as much about your work as you do.
