There’s been a lot of excitement around the new Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, and as a travel and nature photographer and filmmaker, I’ve had the privilege of testing it extensively in the field over the past weeks. 📸
What’s stood out most in the field:
🏔️ The 100-400mm reach allows me to isolate distant details without disturbing the scene.
🌱 The constant F4.5 gives me consistent exposure control and beautiful subject separation with smooth background compression.
🦜 The fast and reliable AF makes it easy to respond to the fleeting moments on my travels.
A powerful workhorse if you ask me — especially for anyone focused on travel, landscape, or observational storytelling.

Singaporean photographer and filmmaker Beixin (@beixin ) captures ‘Impression Lijiang’ in Yunnan, where music, dance, and ritual from more than ten ethnic minority communities unfold in quiet dialogue with the stillness of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
“This body of work was approached with a focus on cinematic restraint and presence rather than spectacle. We deliberately avoided camera movements that might distract, keeping the attention on the songs, dances, and presence of each community. This allowed us to document how their traditions unfold quietly within the mountains — letting culture and landscape coexist without one overpowering the other.”

Answering one of my most-asked questions — my go-to gear — and sharing some of the shots captured with them. Save for future reference 👇🏼
This changes from time to time, but here’s my current list:
Sony A1 II — my most-used hybrid camera
Sony FX3 — my go-to filmmaking camera
Sony 16–35 — wide landscapes & environments
Sony 28–70 — cinematic everyday lens
Sony 70–200 — compression & wildlife
DJI Mavic 4 Pro — scale & perspective
Peak Design Travel Tripod — lightweight carbon fiber (a must for travel)
Apple MacBook Pro 14” M4 — a powerhouse for all my editing
DaVinci Resolve — my preferred editing software
With that said, this is also a reminder that you don’t need all of this to create great work. Gear helps, but skill, patience, and storytelling matter far more. Have fun creating!

Lugu Lake (泸沽湖), like scenes from a movie. 🛶
While everyone else headed out onto the lake that morning, @robinlamhj and I stayed by the water and challenged ourselves to find different scenes from one spot.
Which one is your favourite? 🩵

Already missing our days in Lijiang and at @amandayan_resort . Staying at Amandayan, surrounded by the mountains and quiet gardens, we felt completely immersed in the rhythm of this place.
It inspired us so deeply that we set out to bring this mini film to life, exploring the lessons it’s taught us. We crafted every detail for @aman , from storyboard to filming, direction, script, and edit.
What places have stayed with you long after leaving?
