The day you were told you needed surgery you looked up inquisitively and asked “why me?”. The day of surgery you stood brave, cracked some jokes, and told us you’ll be ok. 10 years later, you continue to be brave in the face of new experiences, you provide comfort to those close to you, and the sarcasm drips freely all day long, lol! You’ve never used your condition as an excuse or as a crutch, but as your motivator to push yourself further. You don’t take for granted the blessing placed upon your life, and every day I’m more in awe of how your heart grows, your level of compassion, your perseverance! I love you kid! #cdheartstrong

Being intentional and present with the blessings we experience daily and the embracing the opportunities we are fortunate enough to have. Our family gathered to celebrate the honor of my uncle being inducted to his high school’s Hall of Fame for basketball, occurring the same night my son’s team battled against them. Just taking it all in- these are the moments and the people that matter. Sharing memories of a young black male playing basketball and winning the CCL in 1975, witnessing a young black male in 2024 trudging the path forward in the CCL, building on unknown legacies and acknowledging the impact of those that have come before us, while leaning into the love that keep us together.
