The Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais is not neutral — it is a continued attack on the political power of our communities.
By weakening the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Court is sanctioning the dilution of our votes and undermining our ability to shape the decisions that impact our lives. For Latine communities, this ruling strikes at the heart of our growing civic participation. Even as we organize, vote, and lead, the rules are being rewritten to silence us.
This is not a moment for caution. It is a moment for bold, sustained action.
That is why we are partnering with @latinojustice and the Multiracial Democracy Project from the George Washington University Law School to convene funders for an urgent briefing:
📣 Ballots & Barriers: The Fight for Latine Voting Rights Post-Callais
📅 Tuesday, May 12 | 1pm EST 🔗 https://bit.ly/post-callais
We will not accept this erosion of our democracy, and we need funders ready to act alongside us. Register today.
🕊️ Remembering Douglas Patiño, a foundational voice in Latino philanthropy.
His legacy lives on in the communities and institutions he shaped. Rest in power.
Louisiana v. Callais is a direct attack on Latine political power.
At Hispanics in Philanthropy, we refuse to accept this. Democracy doesn’t defend itself — it takes bold, sustained investment in the civic infrastructure our communities need right now.
Funders: this is THE MOMENT to act. Grassroots movements and civic engagement organizations need your investment. Now

What does it mean to become a good ancestor — especially now?
Join us tomorrow April 28 at 10am PT (1pm EST) for the second round of a powerful conversation with three transformational leaders who are reshaping how we think about funding and impact:
✨ Tyeshia "Ty" Wilson - catalyzing action through giving circles that honor the past & build the future
✨ Aldita Amaru Gallardo - transforming philanthropy through Sacred Reciprocity that centers generosity and care

What does it mean to become a good ancestor — especially now?
Drawing from the visionary work of Octavia E. Butler, this year's series invites philanthropy practitioners, community leaders, and changemakers to sit with both the darkness and the possibility of this moment.
Across our conversations, we'll ask: In a world that is always on fire, how do we learn from the past to build today what we hope for tomorrow?
This is not passive work. The future is shaped by what we choose to build, protect, and transform right now.

The courage of women who have broken decades of silence demands more than acknowledgment, it requires transformation.
We're asking what that transformation actually looks like for philanthropy: who gets resourced, who gets believed, and what it means to refuse to build justice on top of silence.
