2022 YEAR IN GEAR as inspired by
@gse
Well, building a new studio certainly wins most expensive purchase of the year. I couldn’t be more excited to be working out of the new space. The sound, comfort, and sound isolation in the new studio makes me more excited than ever to come to work.
The majority of my gear purchases this year were to help outfit the new studio, and help organize stuff a bit better.
The majority of the acoustic treatment was from the great people at
@gikacoustics . I think the best addition was their alpha series panels, which I have all over the live room. They have a clever, simple slat style diffuser panel in front of a typical 4” absorption panel. I found them to be fantastic at retaining a live, energetic sound while controlling problematic mid-low frequencies.
QRD diffusers on the back wall of the control room from #atsacoustics. I’m fortunate enough the new control room is long enough to benefit from true QRD diffusion, and the effect is pretty noticeable. I did have to sand and treat these ones before going up. I might have gone with
@gikacoustics Q7D’s instead, had they been in production at the time.
New live room rug, large enough to accommodate a giant drum kit was a new addition.
@nickster_riffster has been my go-to help in finding so much stuff at Lowe’s for the new studio, this rug being one of many of those things. I can’t thank him enough!
Naturally with hundreds of trips to the hardware store comes doing some extra DIY projects. I framed out and hung all of the ceiling panels for the studio, as well as made my first proper cable rack, and a mic stand organizer. The mic stand organizer was something I found on the gearpage years ago, and finally got around to making. Just some large PVC pipes cut to size and attached to plywood board. Works great
New mic wall plates and a ton of custom cabling from
