Last week, Be Free Young Carers had the honour of coming together for a truly special and inspiring experience, hosted by @theroomoxford at St John’s College, Oxford l, to celebrate the work we do across Oxfordshire for young carers 👏🏽 A selection of both staff and volunteers attended the event on behalf of Be Free Young Carers, representing the dedication and commitment that sits at the heart of our organisation. We’re incredibly excited to be partnering with The Room Oxford and to be part of such a meaningful opportunity that brought people together in a powerful and thought-provoking way. We’re really looking forward to continuing this relationship into the next year and building on the momentum created. The next step will see members vote for which charity will receive additional funding, a decision that will be transformational for whichever organisation is chosen, helping to create real and lasting impact. A huge thank you to The Room Oxford for their support and for shining a light on the work being done for young carers across our community 🫶🏼

Today, some of our team had the pleasure of attending the B4 Oxfordshire Business Summit at the stunning @blenheimpalace 👏🏽 A real highlight of the day for us was Mason, who until recently was one of our young carers. Mason had the opportunity to speak with other attendees, sharing his personal experience of life as a young carer and how the support from Be Free Young Carers has made a difference to him. It was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do, giving young carers a voice, raising awareness, and showing the real impact of the work happening every day. Great work, Mason. 👏

We’re delighted to welcome Emma as a new ambassador for Be Free Young Carers 💙 Based in Henley-on-Thames, Emma brings a strong commitment to supporting young people and strengthening community-led initiatives. She has already been actively involved in youth-focused work locally and continues to champion opportunities that help young people thrive. Our ambassadors play a vital role in raising awareness of young carers, building local connections, supporting fundraising efforts, and helping us extend our reach into communities where young people need us most. They are advocates, connectors, and champions for change. We’re thrilled to have Emma join the mission, welcome to the team 🫶🏼

And that’s a wrap on Dorchester Festival 🎉 From abseiling down buildings to running tea rooms (and everything in between!), it’s been an unforgettable few days for everyone at Be Free Young Carers 👏🏽 We’ve laughed, grafted, met incredible people, and felt so supported by the community every step of the way. A huge, heartfelt thank you to the festival organisers for choosing us as this year’s charity, and an even bigger thank you to our incredible team who showed up, worked tirelessly, and made it all happen. You were amazing from start to finish. Your support means the world to the young carers and families we work with every day. 💛

This Mental Health Awareness Week, the theme is Action. At Be Free Young Carers, we know mental health isn’t a once-a-year conversation for young carers, it’s part of everyday life. We’ve teamed up with Helen, mum to two young carers with us, who shares what it’s like raising a child with additional needs and how that impacts the whole family. She talks about what action really looks like at home: asking for help, accepting support, making space to talk, and recognising when things feel too heavy, and how having a safe space through our charity gives young carers somewhere they feel understood, supported, and not alone.

A little Sunday evening note to our young carers and families ahead of exams starting tomorrow… Exam season is here, and we know this time of year can feel even heavier when you’re balancing revision with caring responsibilities at home. Of course, this message is for all students sitting exams and the families supporting them too. Some young carers may seem fine on the outside but be feeling the pressure quietly. Others may feel overwhelmed, tired, or behind. There’s no “right” way to handle this, and that’s okay. Be kind to yourself, ask for support if you need it, take breaks when you can. At Be Free Young Carers, we see you, we understand, and we’re here for you. 🫶🏼

We’re talking all things @dorchesterfestival again, because we’re absolutely loving being part of it! 🎉🫶🏼 Today, the Be Free Young Carers team took over the tea shop, serving up a delicious selection of cakes alongside plenty of tea and coffee. We had such a brilliant time meeting everyone who popped by. This festival really is something special, and we’re so incredibly honoured to be the chosen charity this year. If you haven’t been yet, you really must go and experience it for yourself, the artwork, the music, the stalls, the food, the events, and the atmosphere are just fantastic.

Shining a spotlight on these stunning arches, although they truly do speak for themselves. Designed by @davidharbersculptures , inspired by the vision of @emmacolemanjones , and brought to life through artwork created by local schools and community groups, including Be Free Young Carers, these arches are a beautiful celebration of creativity, collaboration, and young voices 👏🏽 They’re available to view for the duration of @dorchesterfestival , and this isn’t the last you’ll see of them. The arches will be going on tour after the festival. Keep your eyes on our social media to see where they appear next. How beautiful 🫶🏼

Here’s Kace, who’s just completed her work experience with us at Be Free Young Carers 👏🏽 Kace first came to us over ten years ago as a young carer. Like so many of the young people we meet, she was balancing far more than most her age ever should. Over the years, we’ve watched her grow in confidence, find her voice, and become an incredible role model for others. Today, she’s not only still part of our community, she’s one of our ambassadors. Having her back with us for work experience felt like a full-circle moment. A reminder of why we do what we do, and the lasting impact support can have 👌🏽 We’re so proud of the person Kace has become, and so grateful she still chooses to be part of the Be Free family.
