It was lovely to meet @truecuckoo while hanging out @elevatorsoundbristol on sunday after @machinabristronica . What a lovely chap on his own wonderfully unique journey.
He was interested to hear about my experiments with tape and the uTape Scrubber so we did a quick demo in shop.
I went into full demo mode haha I need to talk less and listen more!
I feel blessed to have had the opportunity talk to so many people about my passion and vision for using tape with eurorack!

1U Mini TapeRack Prototype.
I found this old prototype and love it as it is.
I lost confidence in this project but feel ready to finish it after years of struggling to think clearly.
Here it is recording S.O.S with the erase head switched off which sounds lush and gives an echo effect.
With each pass the previous recording mixed with the new. After several passes it disappears.
The recorded loop can be saved by removing the audio input and erased by activating the erase head.
Although it looks like a 2 head system it actually a proper 3 head as the erase and record have been combined :)
This means it will be possible to patch it as a delay with a mixer!
This evening I added two additional mini bearings to the 1U 8hp Return which have helped guide the tape loops better.
I feel it works great and although there are still alot of things I want to improve maybe I am ready to make a batch to sell.....

I’ve been Running My 104hp Skiff off of this wee beauty the @beepboopelectronics Nano USB-EURO Power supply for a while now and it just works so well ! Running off USB It’s allowed me to be portable without lugging around a power brick, and also great for my tiny little skiff so I can focus on learning a module away from distractions, that said I’ve generally got the Reel Repeats in there to so I do need to carry a reel to reel but that runs on batteries, big heavy batteries.
Was just rearranging my case and thought I’d show some appreciation for the less glamorous aspect of modular. Though it is elegant !

Although I won't be at Superbooth I feel blessed to have been able to go to GinkoFest in the Netherlands and Belgium Modular Day
I am so grateful to have friends like Jan for inviting me to GinkoFest at @ginkosynthese HQ and Veerle of @acidsolderclub for helping run a tape loop workshop with me (and generally putting a roof over my head, feeding me and putting up with a very stoned Monojack 😂)

In all honesty I've been finding exhibitions very difficult so it was a relief to be able to do this one without running away.... Sorry to anyone who was hoping to see me at Maschina last year.
I hope that next year I will have the 1U TapeRack system completed and then I will come to @superbooth_berlin

Really happy with how smooth this one is going backwards and having the rubber assists reverse movement :)

BREAKOUT uLOOPs coming soon!
By removing the top of a micro cassette it's possible to "breakout" from the tape cassette to make an extended loop!
So far I've tested a loop that's well over a meter but I'm sure longer is possible.
I've been experimenting with adding extra play heads to listen to the tape at different points which gives a delay effect and could even be used to feedback if patched right.
I'll make a full video about BREAKOUT uLOOPs over the weekend.

Long lost answerphone machines messages...
Before turning any micro cassette into a uLOOPs I sit down with a cuppa and listen first.
All of the micro cassettes with screws I was very lucky to find were used in answerphone machines.
I've found some incredible stuff that I've been archiving to release as a sample pack to send out with the uTape Scrubber!

So happy with how this recording went! It's really reassuring to have nailed the demo first time in one take :)
I feel like these expanders are taking me to a place where I can start to actually express myself musically.
My dream is to perform with the TapeRack system and spoken word verse but first I must finish the system.
This expander is one tiny step in the right direction.
