Two of the three complete raffia baskets, in this collection. Still figuring out the weaving dimensions & technique to a square mat Really happy with this Aloe a students parent gifted in the summer. This is documentation of my growing confidence in weaving coded in afrofuturist thought. I always seem to come back to @j_______g_______ “Womens Work” 2012 This Virgo moon @ 0degress has me pondering detachment and community- interdependence and the intellectualizing of emotional capacity, advantages, and practicality. Foto ID: center of image are two Sandy & orange woven baskets- beneath a wooden bowl containing handpicked dry herbs (calendula & lemon balm), African/Jamaica icronography surrounds the periphery- a drum, tin elephant, & broken statue of an African, with an Aloe plant top left. #basketry #coilbasketweaving #weaving #fiber

The campers had a blast making cordage today— a multitude of ideas came from the fiber play; such as, fashion, compound bow string, rope for hunting, & fishing line. The first picture is of the three ropes I made from the mixing the fibers. Not show is the Rafa fiber and other campers experimentation.

Today I visited Seren- meditated with them as I prepare for travel and new adventures 🌀 I remember the day Seren gave me their name. I came here- to this field - as I usually do- but on that day no tech- just Louie and I bare 🪾🍃 -as we walked under fall canopy a large beautiful red tailed hawk 🪶 soared from one tree, caring a squirrel within its jaws, and perched on Seren’s branch and watched me as I gazed on in reverence. Today I came to Seren baring gifts, frequencies and smoke signals to ask for safe travels, truth, peace of mind and an open mind, heart and spirit- Seren meaning; star, tranquil, clear, noblewoman Until our paths here cross again ➰

Construction/carpentry workshop led by @willowzef today- first build of raised beds for annuals —🌸 I definitely felt empowered and excited to contribute to the ongoing effort to make the garden more accessible to the greater community especially those who use wheelchairs and other walking aids. Learned about how to ethically use re-claimed wood for builds especially in relation to soil and toxin levels. And got to see a table saw in use in person ! There are more pictures but I’m low on digispace so 💪🏾🌱

Y’all I started this loom a year ago— I was transitioning through a lot, letting go of environments, people, and places and parts of myself I recognized as detrimental and so this started as an Avenue to build resilience— I realized I do best when I have something to occupy my hands and channel energy, grief, anger and abandonment into. And for a while, I did abandon this piece in all its haphazardness, tedious efforts and the uncertainty of what the hell i was doing and yet— At a later date, I name this lack, this detrimental behavior - self-esteem- (lack there of) a hardened sense of self starting way back when This project has been rearing it’s ugly head for a year, looking at me and peering into deeper parts of myself asking me to unearth. Now I can gaze upon this work with different eyes with love—- No longer ignoring but breathing in the frustration, pain, burden and grief and exhale saying “I forgive you” that’s what I think this loom piece says, “I forgive you” And now I can start a new one so “whew” 😮‍💨 Hand built loom, materials used: yarn, wool, & bamboo Thank you for reading— #loom #fiberart #handmadecrafts

Another loom for the fall— Tis the season for highway forage adventures and perfect outdoor crafting weather 🍃 Ive been thinking about dressing this piece up with some (processed fibers aka yarn) and other plant material to decorate—I call these wall hangers —these structures were traditionally used as floor mats or curtains/sunshades for huts and housing structures, integrated commonly for ‘warmer’ climates. I have a fascination with impermanence and binding. The impermanent of resources and a binding to land- a binding to material and impermanence to space. Talking about decomposition its entanglement ecologically on climatic changes and time slippages that can and are being observed- so ive been guided to work with these technologies in extension to the UI I travel back & forth (Ancestral & traumatic- bodily) where my people are from- I migrate back to specific areas, which love me respect me and which spirits talk with me about why its calling to me— usually at times of the year- the slippage happens and I find myself making there with those alchemical shifts. Ive been taking Louie here for a while now watching the growth for some time, after a store these were fallen and looked to be tampered with by bureau control/reconstruction. I wonder what this place will look like in 20yrs. Materials: dead branches, bamboo, and jute chord #indigenoustechnology #weavingloom #weaving #looming #plantfiber #plantfiberart #fiberart

Ode to the autumn Slide 1: Goldenrod- Solidago On roadsides, in fall fields, in rumpy branches, saffron and orange and pale gold, in little towers, soft as mash, sneeze-bringers and seed-bearers, full of bees and yellow beads and perfect flowerets and orange butterflies. I don't suppose much notice comes of it, except for honey, and how it heartens the heart with its blank blaze. I don't suppose anything loves it except, perhaps, the rocky voids filled by its dumb dazzle. For myself, I was just passing by, when the wind flared and the blossoms rustled, and the glittering pandemonium leaned on me. I was just minding my own business when I found myself on their straw hillsides, citron and butter-colored, and was happy, and why not? Are not the difficult labors of our lives full of dark hours? And what has consciousness come to anyway, so far, that is better than these light-filled bodies? All day on their airy backbones they toss in the wind, they bend as though it was natural and godly to bend, they rise in a stiff sweetness, in the pure peace of giving one's gold away. ~ Mary Oliver —— Slide 2: The seagoat log, a Symbole of the nala-zima-nala, the living-dying-living being, an imprint(fossil) of summers deed. Slide 3: Ganodermataceae fungi- a wood-decaying pathogen Slide 4: Rosehips- decent source of Vitamin C during the winter Hybridation. The fluffy inner belly is rip for making a seed oil, and magikal uses (Rosehips belong to Jupiter and may be used as a charm to attract health and wealth. The belly-shaped fruit, packed with seeds, is a symbol of prosperity and fertility. The fruits placed beneath the pillow protect the sleeper against nightmares and nasty spirits that seek to disturb the nightly peace.) Protection of sleep and dream states are of utmost importance it’s a bio-spiritual strengthening ✨
