Another great NATO DIANA cluster completed in Finland 🇫🇮 We had a fantastic time presenting Beechat in front of the Finnish defence ecosystem during the Finnish Demo Day, alongside leading companies and organisations such as Savox Communications Ltd, Bittium, and the Finnish Defence University. It was a valuable opportunity to showcase how Beechat is building secure, infrastructure-free communications for denied environments, while exchanging insights with key players across defence, security, and dual-use innovation. The day after gave us a great final get-together in Finland, with a memorable trip to Santahamina for a fun day at the shooting range, followed by the essential Finnish tradition: sauna. A special thank you to VTT Dual-Use LaunchPad for the excellent organisation throughout the clusters, the support, and all the fun moments along the way. We will definitely miss the clusters in Finland and the incredible people we have met throughout this journey, but we are looking forward to the final NATO DIANA Demo Days in Paris this June.

Last week, we were in Copenhagen for a joint NATO DIANA cluster, bringing together teams from VTT Dual-Use LaunchPad (Finland) and BioInnovation Institute (BII) (Denmark). A strong focus of the week was strategy. Through structured wargaming exercises, we explored decision-making under pressure, capability trade-offs, and how technologies are actually positioned in operational scenarios. We also took the opportunity for a short road trip to Aarhus, where we visited Terma Group and got a closer look at their production facilities. Along the way, we had valuable exchanges with the Danish Defence Innovation Unit, which added important perspective on current priorities and adoption pathways. Overall, a highly productive week. Great discussions, ecosystem engagement, and a chance to connect with other DIANA innovators working on some of NATO’s most relevant challenges.

This week Beechat had the opportunity to spend time at the Houses of Parliament in London. We had the opportunity to speak with MPs, members of the House of Lords, and peers across different parties about one of the key structural challenges facing UK defence innovation: lengthy procurement cycles and slow funding pathways within government bodies such as the UK Ministry of Defence. The discussion focused on practical, actionable ways to shorten these cycles to better support UK sovereign SMEs and accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies. Encouragingly, there was clear recognition from several parliamentarians that these challenges need to be addressed with urgency, and that tangible steps forward should be taken within Parliament. The sessions were organised by the ACT | The App Association. Thank you for bringing together such a valuable group. It was also great to connect with a number of impressive UK innovators and SMEs, who truly form the backbone of the British economy.

Beechat Network Systems will be participating in REPMUS 2026 under the NATO DIANA delegation, where we will demonstrate the Kaonic 1S platform in a live operational environment. REPMUS is NATO’s flagship experimentation exercise for maritime unmanned systems and interoperability, organised in collaboration with the Portuguese Navy, bringing together defence, industry and research to validate emerging technologies against real operational scenarios and standards such as STANAG 4817. At this year’s exercise, we will focus on a key challenge: maintaining a continuous Common Operational Picture when GNSS and infrastructure are no longer available. Kaonic 1S will be demonstrated as a self-healing, infrastructure-free mesh network at squad level, enabling operators using ATAK to exchange data peer-to-peer and maintain situational awareness without satellite services or fixed networks. We will also explore deployable relay nodes and integration of distributed sensors to extend connectivity across heterogeneous assets in contested environments. As part of the NATO DIANA programme, we are bringing this capability into real operational scenarios where resilience, autonomy and interoperability are critical. Looking forward to engaging with partners and end users on the ground.

Last week, we were in Finland as part of the NATO DIANA programme, taking part in a series of events across the defence and dual-use ecosystem. Key moments included: • VC Day at VTT, engaging with investors from across the Nordics and Germany to share Beechat’s vision and explore opportunities to scale resilient communications technologies • A storytelling and pitching workshop with Mario Aguilera and Andres Archila, strengthening how we communicate complex technologies clearly and effectively to different industries • A visit to the Finnish Defence Forces C5I School in Riihimäki, gaining first-hand insight into how next-generation cyber and ATAK-enabled capabilities are being developed by operators • The opening of the Defence Innovation Network Finland (DEFINE) cluster, bringing together startups, investors, and defence stakeholders for pitching, discussion, and collaboration across the ecosystem • Defence Ecosystem Day at VTT Dual-Use LaunchPad, where we presented our technology and engaged with industry leaders such as Bittium, Nokia, and Savox Communications Ltd to exchange perspectives on future capabilities A sincere thank you to Mario Aguilera and Andres Archila for the valuable workshop, and to the VTT Dual-Use LaunchPad — Tiia-Maria Jaakkola, Markus Häyhtiö, and Ella Kennedy — for organising and driving such a high-impact programme. We are grateful to our mentors — Mario Aguilera, Benjam Bröijer, Timo Kerola, and Tomi Kankainen — whose continued guidance is helping us sharpen both our positioning and our approach as we scale.

We’ll be at XPONENTIAL Europe 2026 in Düsseldorf next week. Looking forward to many good meetings, discovering what people have been building, and catching up with partners across the autonomy and defence ecosystem. At Beechat, we’re pushing Kaonic 1S, focused on secure, infrastructure-free mesh communications for tactical and UxV environments, enabling resilient multi-hop networking in GNSS-denied or disconnected scenarios. If you’re working on UAVs, UGVs, maritime systems, ATAK, or any tactical or UxV use case, it would be great to connect. Reach out on LinkedIn or at [email protected] to set up a meeting.

Modern communication networks assume stable infrastructure, predictable topology, and continuous connectivity. In real-world environments — disaster response, remote operations, distributed autonomy, and contested domains — those assumptions often fail. This is why the defence industry is increasingly recognising the importance of resilient, infrastructure-independent networking and interoperability between operators, vehicles, drones, and sensors. One technology gaining attention in this space is Reticulum — a decentralised, cryptography-native networking protocol designed to function across unreliable links and fragmented networks. At Beechat, we have been building systems on top of Reticulum for several years. Our focus is on resilient communications hardware and software designed for environments where connectivity cannot be assumed. Our latest blog explains: • why traditional networking architectures struggle in degraded environments • how Reticulum enables resilient mesh networking • the benefits of identity-based networking and decentralised design • the design philosophy behind the systems we build Read the full article at the link in our bio.

Last week, we spent three days at the NATO DIANA Defence and Security Days in Munich. A few highlights: • Deep dives into NATO’s new Rapid Adoption Service and what it means for transitioning innovation into operational capability • Panels on navigating different defence markets and collaborating effectively with Ministries of Defence across NATO nations • The opportunity to see the 2025 NATO DIANA cohort demo their technologies • Honest discussions around adoption pathways, procurement friction, and operational validation What stood out most, however, were the conversations. Bringing together NATO innovators, Bundeswehr representatives, NATO officials, and the wider DIANA ecosystem creates a rare environment: one where operational need, technological capability, and procurement reality are discussed in the same room, at the same time. It was particularly valuable to reconnect with fellow and previous innovators and to see how solutions are maturing across cohorts. The ecosystem is clearly evolving from experimentation towards structured adoption. Events like this reinforce that resilient defence innovation is not just about building advanced technology. It is about alignment: with operators, with ministries, and with the realities of NATO capability development. Three intense days. Many strong discussions. Clear signals on where adoption is heading.

Last week we kicked off the first NATO DIANA cluster in Espoo, Finland. The week was spent in keynotes and working discussions on the current European and NATO defence environment, covering operational needs, procurement constraints, and where new capabilities are actually needed. It concluded with a gala that brought together defence decision-makers, including representatives from the Finnish Defence Forces and Finland’s Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen. The conversations were open, practical, and continued well beyond the programme itself. Many thanks to VTT Dual-Use LaunchPad for organising the week, to our mentors Mario Aguilera, Benjam Bröijer, Timo Kerola, and Tomi Kankainen for their hands-on engagement, and to the other companies in the cohort for the many interesting discussions. For Beechat, the focus now is on real use-cases. Over the coming months we will be putting Kaonic into real settings, validating it, and building a system shaped by real operational use. Looking forward to continuing the discussions in Munich in February. Learn more at the link in bio

How do modern drones survive jamming? As electronic warfare intensifies, drones are being forced to adapt fast. Our latest blog covers the dominating approaches: • Fibre-optic tethers that bypass the spectrum entirely • Onboard AI that keeps drones operating when links are lost • Frequency hopping that makes wireless control harder to detect and disrupt There is no single perfect solution. The future is clearly hybrid: systems that combine adaptive communications, autonomy, and alternative links depending on mission and threat level. What is clear is that anti-jamming is no longer a niche feature. It is becoming a baseline requirement for any serious drone platform, military or civilian. If you are interested in resilient communications, electronic warfare, or the future direction of drone design, the full article is now live at the link in bio
