Still love buzzed from a magical weekend with friends and family and dogs! 💕I didn’t grow up dreaming of weddings or becoming a bride (like all sensible writers my dream was writing books!!) but I see why people fantasize about weddings now. What are we doing here if we can’t celebrate love? I think my main issue is why can’t we have weddings for everything?? I want to have a wedding with all my friends and animals and favorite books and also an extra large wedding for coffee. But for now I’m so grateful I got to marry the love of my life, Pat Dingle, my Ding, a guy I didn’t really think existed until I met him. The day was so beautiful and I wish I could do it all over again. Special shout out to the best photographer @gatlinbee who really brought out our cheese and also captured the most important part of the wedding: Chapis. ❤️

Last night I came home to a box of these beauties. Words don't do justice to how grateful I am for everyone who has helped bring her into the world-- teachers, friends, family, and patient geniuses like @msrucci.editor and @rack__roll . Writing is often lonely and maddening, but every day I get to play with imaginary people in my head and turn them into words that transport these imaginary people into the brains of complete strangers. Books are magic and basically everyone who writes is a sorceress. Feeling grateful for superpowers🙏💫

When I was a young(er) writer I dreamed of winning a Pushcart Prize. Actually, I dreamed of publishing a story in a literary journal, period, but a Pushcart seemed like the height of writerly success. WTF even is a pushcart? Nobody knows, but it seems to symbolize the rolling container into which a young lady nerd might transport all her grandiose fantasies and aspirations. Fast forward to a week before my 35th birthday and I can’t really process seeing my name in a book like this. I’m here alongside so many of my literary idols. George Saunders. Anthony Doerr. Zadie Smith. Kevin Wilson. Mary Karr. Ada Limon. Even trippier is that I’m in here with two of my grad school professors and literary role models, @pamlhouston and @apple_twig_li , writers whose work I’ve admired since I was an undergrad. That I am in this anthology with so many of my heroes is an immense honor and a milestone I never even really dreamed of. Thank you, Pushcart Press editors for selecting my story. A day in the life of a writer with a 9-5! Can’t wait for you to see what I look like at my day job 😂. Not pictured here are the weekends where I also spend much of the day writing. It’s hard to fit enough writing time during the work week, so it does bleed into weekends, holidays, vacations, etc. But we do what we have to! Luckily, I love writing so it’s not a huge sacrifice. I’m grateful every day that my life and job leave some room for creativity. My day job pays the bills, but writing gives me meaning and is how I want to spend my time. #literaryfiction #amwriting #cozyliving
