I remember reading a quote from a business coach saying “if your business isn’t making money, you don’t have a business, you have a hobby.”
I remember feeling so disillusioned by that because anything I’ve ever done since I started my first business at 23 was most certainly not a hobby to me.
Hobbies are fine, but it’s also important to remember things can take time. Not every idea will work. Not everything has to make money off the bat. There is value in building something and refining your craft. Purpose is sometimes found in the rubble of what you think you have lost. Starting over is never really starting from the start again.
It doesn’t always go in the direction you thought, or end up being exactly as you dreamed. Being mailable defines your strength.
Doing it all yourself is necessary, humbling and exhausting. Knowing when and who to surround yourself with is the most powerful gateway to building anything great.
Moments in the sun fade. Remembering that is important because you will have to reinvent whatever it is you do, or whoever you are time and time again. It’s how we grow, and also let go.
@andrewklippel I remember registering the website, and designing a logo so we could start something new called OURNESS. Back then we were still living in LA, and intent on redefining the way things were done.
We moved your incredibly grand piano into my living room which took up almost the entire space, but hearing you play again after a hiatus that felt way too long for someone with your talent, I just knew it was the start of something special.
Step by step you have built it into a powerhouse of creativity, and artistry. I’m so proud of what it has become, and of you.
With so many wonderful people, gifted artists, and talented executives who genuinely feel like a second family.
28 aria nominations in 4 years, alongside a host of other incredible achievements, and future plans.
Here’s a new logo, and here’s to hobbies.
