There’s a lady in my neighborhood, probably around 62, who lives alone.
She has three sons. One is married with kids, one is divorced and the third is unmarried. All three have separate houses now, but none of them keep her with them.
And the strange part is…she never complains about her children. Whenever someone asks, she just says, they have their own lives. I like living alone. I’m more comfortable by myself.
Yesterday she got sick, and none of her sons came to see her. Another neighbor took her to the hospital. She has knee pain, cooks alone, eats alone, travels alone… and still never says a single bad thing about her children.
Sometimes I think people are wrong when they say, Have children so you won’t be alone in old age. Life doesn’t work that predictably anymore.
Maybe we should all learn how to spend time alone, live alone and emotionally survive alone without expecting too much from anyone.
Otherwise later in life, reality can hit very hard.
