Hello. Here’s a post featuring me, because I’m not great at featuring me on my grid apparently.
I’m Bec. Photographer, North Yorkshire (some of the time).
Portraits, brands, interiors, food, travel — for independent businesses, makers, and organisations doing work that really matters in the world.
These are self-portraits taken at home, by the way. I also don't love having my photo taken. So I get it. I promise
When I’m not working I’m reading, in a gallery, by the sea, in the Highlands or the South of France. Or seeing things through the eyes of my girls — who have a way of making the ordinary look completely different.
I’m drawn to independent businesses making things with intention, to art, to light, to travel, to clothes and interiors that tell a story.
If you’ve got something worth photographing, dm me. Let’s chat.

Stories + spaces + love + faces ✨
So many photos that I loved taking. So many adventures. So many stories. So many others I could have included.
Here's to taking photos together. I hope this year is kind to you all. I hope you feel loved ✨

Carol Douglas, studio visit >>>
I think her figures stand the way people stand when they think no one is watching, still, a little turned away, entirely themselves. No performance. Neither is there in her as a person.
I could have sat in that studio and talked all day, about the work, about the things she cares about, about life. My favourite way to take photographs for sure.
Her taste runs through everything. The paintings, the way she dresses, the flowers on the table, the objects she’s chosen to keep close.🤍

Harri Moss is an artist, and her home is such testament to that.
She makes entirely bespoke knitwear – jumpers, skirts, bags – as @june.to.october , for an impressively cool client list.
She bought this house with her family when she moved back to York from London and has made it her own. Colour everywhere – in the walls, the paintings, the yarn.

Borrowing Light is still running at Studio by Rock Garden, York, until 24 May. The studio is open Friday to Monday if you haven’t made it along yet- it's such a beautiful space it's worth checking out.
Quite a few have found new homes, which means a lot. Each image is a limited edition of 10, so if there’s one you’d like me to get reprinted now would be a great time.
Get in touch with the studio directly or DM me and I can help from there.
Witness, the writing on the wall image, is available framed or unframed, with all print profits going to Palestinian aid.
More on the work and the thinking behind it on my Substack. Link in bio.
Some details from the York studio of artist David Campbell — painter, printmaker, and archivist of the natural world. Shells, pressed flowers, collaged panels of architecture and olive branches, handprints pinned to the wall. A studio that is as beautiful as the work it produces. The second and the final images shows Thalassa III (Mastixa) — a large painting being auctioned to raise funds for Gaza through Lifeline4Gaza.
Painted with sea salt from the Mani peninsula in Greece, natural indigo from Mali, pigments and beeswax on recycled U.S. army tarpaulin. The title refers to the Greek word for the sea. Reserve price £1,000 (listed price £3,600)
To place a bid, contact David at [email protected]
If you know anyone who might want to bid, please feel free to share. 🇵🇸
Friday was dreamy.
Thank you to everyone who came to the opening of Borrowing Light at Studio by Rock Garden. The room was so full of incredible people and the conversations were good and I left feeling very lucky.
York, you’ve been kind to me. The people I’ve met since moving here made Friday a huge part of what it was. Genuinely so grateful for you all. And to Lydia and Zak for inviting me into their beautiful studio.
The exhibition runs until 24th May at Studio by Rock Garden, York.
Fourteen photographs and one where all proceeds go to Palestine. It sold twice on Friday but a limited run of reprints is available if you’d like one.
Come see it if you can x
Nothing here is finished. Nothing here is lost.
What we do with our borrowed light; the attention we pay, the joy we donate, the luminous moments we hold and give back- that is the only part that is ours.
Borrowing Light opens this Friday. Preview evening 24 April, 6–8pm at Studio by Rock Garden, Scarcroft Road, York. Runs until 24 May.
Hope to see you there, Bec x
