I’m opening a store! 🎉
@kith.ship means those whom you share a common affinity for the landscape or place you inhabit. I had first heard it while @elizabluesings spoke at a @women.in.ranching get together.
It was a word that had such weight and meaning to it, i wrote it on a sticky note and looked at it every day.
Almost four years ago I dreamt of a place that would be a mix between an antique store and a farmers market and Kithship will be exactly that.
This shop will be the confluence of land, design and community. We will have pop ups the first weekend of every month with different collaborators. Also, keep your eyes peeled for workshops.
I can’t wait to share it with you all.
I was 18 when I walked into a shelter and met Veda. I was so depressed and couldn’t get out of bed, and I knew I needed a dog to help get me outside every day.
She was the last dog I met with and as she came in, she sat right down in my lap. An employee walked by and noticed us through the glass door. She had a little notepad and paper and scribbled a note to press up against the window: “it looks like the two of you are in love.” We are.
For 15 years she has been and is the love of my whole world, and my deepest friend. She saved me.
We traveled around the US together, living out of my car and she didn’t care where we were as long as she was with me.
She met Eduardo and immediately fell in love with him.
She fought really hard to be here for the last year of cancer and we sat out on our farm, watching the sunset last night and holding her while she released into the great universe so she can be a part of everything.
I am so deeply heartbroken to lose the physical part of her on earth and I will miss her endlessly.
At some point in the past couple years, and I’m not sure when, I stopped photographing my life for joy and it became a creative habit just reserved for paying bills and work. It’s a slippery slope for creativity because the thing that gets you the work also functions as a huge source of joy and need to make things. I’m feeling inspired to take out the camera and capture pieces of our lives again because i look back on this selection with such fondness and joy. ❤️
