Hope to see you there
In ’22 when I was following a lead for a dresser on craiglist free, I came across the remnants of the estate sale of Dennis Cunnigham, an important civil rights lawyer who was also an artist that made assemblage sculptures out of found materials.
I was in awe of the history to be uncovered through the objects in his place, and through speaking to his living relatives. The rest of the fate/karmic twists of this story are for another day (ask me in person), but I was compelled to commemorate the experience at the time and made a poster that utilized some of the headlines from saved articles about his legal advocacy work (format heavily inspired by Lorraine O’Grady’s CONYT series, which was also *on my mind* for totally different reasons at the time).
All this to say, I have about 20 or so copies of these newsprint posters left, and I would be happy to mail one directly to you if you make a donation of $10-infinity to one of the three following orgs/causes:
Equal Justice Initiative (/)
Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (/)
Reproductive Freedom for All (/)
If you venmo me directly, I will split the total donations I receive between the three organizations. (Although frankly I think it will be administratively easier for me if you just text or DM me a screenshot of your donation receipt and your mailing address).
Pictured: Newsprint poster picturing newspaper headlines reading “who judges the judges” and “why cops lie” on recto/verso. Found photograph of Malcom X mounted on matte board, saved from the estate of Dennis Cunningham.
