Before the Pouring
A garden is a room full of expectations,
everyone enters with a picture already formed,
petals behaving, colors arriving on time,
soft things proving their worth through bloom.
No one prepares you
for the silence between growth,
for the way soil can look like failure before it breathes.
There is a moment before water meets root,
I live there.
In the pause that feels like disobedience,
like I am withholding something sacred.
The air thick with imagined voices…
it is your job to make things flourish,
why is nothing happening yet?
So I stand here, inside the almost,
hands steady around a watering can
heavy with all I could give,
learning that not every delay is neglect.
Some of it is love,
lingering at the edge of becoming,
refusing to rush life open.
