We have black bears in Texas, so it is important to familiarize yourself with prints and scat.
š¾Bears have 5 toes
š¾Print will be 4-7 inches wide
š¾Scat contains dark, dense, piles
Bears can travel far distances, but according to Texas Parks & Wildlife, the only breeding grounds in the state are currently in West Texas.
We are kicking off Bear Awareness Week! This week we will talk about what to do if approached by a bear, provide information about bear spray, and cover tips on indentifying bear prints and scat.
Let us know what questions or experiences you have had along the way!

We know you are excited to support BEARS Etc. in a brand new event, the Art of the Wild Gala! Early Bird Special continues through May 31, so get your tickets now.
Event will be hosted on June 18, 2026 at the Kevin Brady Community Center in The Woodlands, TX.
Oliveās story begins in 2022, when she hatched into the world with the bright curiosity Quaker parrots are known for, but her early months were far from easy. Without proper care and living with a chronic eye condition, Olive struggled through her first year, uncomfortable, under-stimulated, and without the environment a young parrot needs to thrive.
In 2023, her owner made the difficult decision to surrender her, hoping she could finally receive the care she deserved. That choice brought Olive to BEARS Etc., where her second chance truly began!
Today, Olive lives in a safe, enriching space surrounded by the sounds of other parrots and the comfort of a predictable and peaceful routine. She receives specialized veterinary care, a proper diet, and ā maybe most importantly companionship that helps her feel secure and safe!
Despite her chronic eye condition, Olive is thriving. Sheās vocal, curious, and full of personality, reminding us every day why second chances matter!

We invite you to follow us on all of our social accounts! Would you share this information so others who love wildlife and want to learn about our mission can find us?
BEARS Etc. Our Mission
To provide a permanent, community-based, self-sustainable refuge for displaced exotic and wild animals and educate others about the natural world.
Founded in Montgomery County, Texas, we connect people with nature through education and awareness. We are building a state-of-the-art facility, providing a safe place for neglected, abused and unwanted bears rescued from the exotic pet trade and giving them a PEACE of the Wild.
We rely on volunteers to spread the word, run events, take care of animals, and tackle large projects to accomplish all that we do! If you'd like to join the BEARS Etc. team and make a difference please visit our website or email us at [email protected]
