FREELY: An Anticapitalist Guide To Pricing Your Work is a three-part webinar series that covers both the theory and practice of how to be in business in an anticapitalist way. We look at internalized capitalist notions that we must unearth and undo, the ways those frequently show up in our businesses, and the visionary strategies that we might employ instead. Part One: How To Set Your Rates Part Two: How To Make Your Work Financially Accessible Part Three: How To Be Financially Secure Freely is $50 and there are solidarity rates available at checkout for marginalized people with financial need. I’m hosting a free Q+A call on February 9, 2026 at 1pm Eastern time for anyone who’s participated in or purchased the FREELY webinars since their release in May 2019 (all 784 of you!) We’ll hang out for an hour and half to talk shop, troubleshoot your real-life scenarios, and answer your burning questions about applying anti-capitalist principles in your business. I hope that this call will also encourage you to watch the webinars if you bought them long ago but never actually followed up on them. #AntiCapitalistBusiness #smallbusiness #radicalbusiness #brooklynsmallbiz #anticapitalistbusiness

Life inside capitalism isn't easy, and all our struggles are interconnected. There's no one right way to do anticapitalism, but all of our attempts matter. As Robin Wall Kimmerer says, "All our flourishing is mutual."

What is internalized capitalism? Internalized capitalism is the way that living in a capitalist society unconsciously influences our behavior to match most closely with capitalism’s aims. Internalized capitalism might look like: -Feeling like you never have enough money, even when you do -Compulsive overwork -Feeling guilty if you have enough money -Feeling shame if you don’t have enough money -Saviorism and martyrdom with clients -Codependency with clients about money Getting out of the internalized traps of capitalism is one of the big pieces of Freely: An Anticapitalist Guide To Pricing Your Work. Making practical changes won’t stick if we don’t do the inner work; Freely tackles both. Freely is a self-paced online course! It's got 4 hours of video content, plus spreadsheets and writings to help you implement your learnings. It's $50 with solidarity rates available. Since 2019, this class has helped tiny business owners figure out their pricing without selling their souls. Wanna join us? You know where to find it!

The title of this video should be “You’re allowed to charge more than you can afford to pay”. (Also yes I recorded this video in early 2020 and yes you can definitely hear how much less comfortable and succinct I am with talking to the camera!!! Also my hair is so much shorter!!! Also my camera was worse!!!) Freely teaches pricing from a liberatory standpoint. This isn’t an oxymoron. Freely: An Anticapitalist Guide to Pricing Your Work

Here are my top five, though this list could be a million miles long! 1. I don’t charge more for payment plans 2. I don’t hide my prices on my website 3. I don’t penalize for cancelled appointments 4. I don’t set my rates based on the market 5. I don’t have barriers to solidarity pricing There are so many more things I don’t do as an anticapitalist business owner that are extremely common business practices. My approach isn’t necessarily right for every person or every business, but it’s what works for me these days. What are some things you don’t do that are “industry standard”? Tell me in the comments!

Praise for Freely: An Anticapitalist Guide to Pricing Your Work! Here are some of the nice things people have said about my online course over the past 6 years. Freely covers both the theory and practice of how to be in business in an anti-capitalist way. We look at internalized capitalist notions that we must unearth and undo, the ways those frequently show up in our businesses, and the visionary strategies that we might employ instead. Stop charging more for payment plans! I know this is standard practice in so many businesses, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t cause harm. Learning new ways of thinking about and doing business are the crux of what I teach in Freely: An Anticapitalist Guide to Pricing Your Work. This online course has a wealth of information about doing business differently. You know where to find it!

Transparent pricing is anticapitalist. Capitalism says we should hide our prices in order to manipulate our customers into buying from us. Anticapitalist business means being transparent about our prices so our customers can make informed decisions. I always try to be as transparent as possible about my pricing. I feel confident overtly sharing my prices because I set my prices based on how much I need to make, and I know that I’m allowed to ask for what I need. I don’t set my prices based on the market rate, or what I’ve deemed my work “worth”, or what I think is “affordable”. I try to put my prices everywhere: in my social media, at the top of the sales page, in the inquiry call email, etc. If you’re worried that saying your prices up front will scare people away, you need more financial accessibility policies! I teach all of this (how to set your rates, how to include financial accessibility in your business model, not as an afterthought, etc) and much more in Freely: An Anticapitalist Guide to Pricing Your Work. I'm "re-launching" this course right now, and in support of the launch, I'm hosting a live Q+A call next Monday to talk about all things pricing. All past and present Freely students will get the Zoom link via email. DM me for more details!

Undercharging is not an accessibility strategy! We have to take into account our own needs as well as the needs of our customers. We’re always aiming for reciprocal exchange! If not, we’re probably ending up extracting from ourselves. Freely has an entire module about creating financial access for people who need it without sacrificing your own well being in the process.
