đ¨ 2026 DIRECTING REEL đ¨
Ninety seconds of bold, cinematic (and often hilarious) storytelling across narrative, branded, and commercial work. Every frame is designed to grab, smack, and stay with you long after the cut.
But hereâs the truth: this reel looks badass because of countless incredible actors, cinematographers, editors, designers, producers, and crews who brought every frame to life. This cut is a celebration of the teamâthe key ingredient to any success.
đď¸ Watch the reel nowâLetâs create something new.

3 YEARS AGOâŚ
I backed the #MEGALITH hardcover campaign from @badideahello on @kickstarter .
2 DAYS AGOâŚ
It landed at my door. Receiving a book like this in the mail is basically the best dopamine hit possible. Worth every minute of the wait.
If giant robots and monster alien invaders are your thing, this book delivers. Itâs out now as a monthly in stores, but the oversized collected format is where Lewis LaRosaâs detail-heavy linework really earns its space on the page. Glad I went this route.
Solid work from the whole creative team:
@matt.kindt.for.real@lewislarosa@lauramartinart
and the @badideahello crew, including @dinesh.shamdasani

AMSTERDAM PHOTO DUMP
(Apologies for the delay)
To say that this was a magic experience wouldnât even begin to describe how beautiful and majestic Amsterdam is. We were there for a week but I couldâve stayed longer. Maybe even forever.
Fun fact: my grandmother came over from the Netherlands when she was just a child. So, I felt really connected to this place. We all come from somewhere else. Thatâs our connection.
Letâs get to the photos!
1. Writing at de Jaren. This cafe got recommended to me on Threads as a good spot to get some work done, and they were absolutely right.
2. Welcomed into Amsterdam by an orange river cruise. I learned upon entering the Amsterdam Airport that Amsterdam is the country of ORANGE! Yeah⌠I was being called.
3. A view up the Prinsengracht canal of Westerkerk Church
4. One of MANY Flower Bikes adorned throughout the city. These were everywhere, and they were elegant and cool to find.
5. Sightseeing through the city center
6. The 3-story American Book Center. It was here that I spotted @vanjensenauthor âs novel! Very exciting! So many books. I spent quite a while here.
7. and 8. The Anne Frank Museum. I didnât take many photos inside during the tour. There was a weight to this story that made you want to really look and absorb the history here. Considering the onslaught of anti-intellectual authoritarianism weâre being bombarded with from every corner of the globe these days, when we ultimately get on the other side of this small-minded bigotry and greed and start rebuilding, I think a recreation of this space and tour should be in every major city in the world. It was powerful.
9. The tulip gardens of Keukenhof. Of course, we went to the tulip fields! Didnât make it out to any windwills. I was taking so many photos of tulips that I had to have an intervention with myself. They all looked the same. No more photos of tulips! Anyways, hereâs my favorite.
10. Chun Cafe, a viral spot to eat some lunch. I tore into this ham, egg, n cheese sandwich on toast and never looked back!
11. A view up Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal of St. Nicholas Basilica

You have to love the little adventures that you didnât expect.
Like meeting up with an old LA buddy and his beautiful family in Amsterdam more than a decade after last seeing one another (pandemic Zoom calls not withstanding) on some random set in the middle of BFE.
Matt, great to see you, man. Glad we got to catch up.
natalieportman, you were just here. Sorry we missed you. Next time.

I found it.
My zen space. Turns out, itâs not in a crowded cafe.
The cafe that makes my favorite latte here in Amsterdam is nice but its music is loud and the large space is dark despite having massive windows everywhere. I wasnât getting anything done. So, yesterday I went looking for a quiet space to write.
I wound up on a floor in the hotel marked Offices. Turned out, this was the hotelâs managerial space. Still, it was quiet and there were tables set up near the elevator. I set up shop and started working. A few minutes later, a manager sticks his head nervously out of his office, asking me why Iâm there. Apparently my room card shouldnât have even been able to access that floor, yet⌠it did.đ (I DO tend to have that kind of luck.)
He apologizes and offers to take me somewhere else. He leads me to the Events floor and says to enjoy it. No one should bother me. And they didnât. Conference rooms, offices, meeting spaces â the entire floor was EMPTY.
My friends, the level at which I zoned out for the next couple of hours is something Iâve never achieved before. I love my cafes but my ADHD brain people-watches, my phone offers to rescue me from that distraction with its own distractions, my focus often evaporates. Yet I keep doing it. Because being out in the world is usually the only place I can get any meaningful work done.
But apparently not. Apparently, all I truly need is total solitude and complete silence.
I crushed my writing goals for the day and pushed further into todayâs work.
It can be difficult to find the right frequency for your specific, unique, beautiful mind â but keep searching for it. Itâs there, and itâs transcendent when you find it.
Find your zone. Do the thing. I did.
I write about my process as a writer and director at my blog. Link in bio.
(Now the question begs, how and where to recreate find this frequency when I get back home?)
Porto Photo Drop time
Porto was, without a doubt, my favorite of the cities I visited in Portugal. Walkable, friendly (thatâs a big one after being in Lisbon), clean, lush. This was my third week traveling but the first where I felt a sense of calm. Thatâs everything.
And the food⌠Incredible.
1. Ponte Luis I bridge, overlooking Rio Douro
2. City center of Porto
3. Parooquia de Santo Ildefonso chapel
4. Fields along Rua de D Perdo V. A lot of the older, untouched or unupdated areas of Porto looked like The Last of Us. Not in a dilapidated way, but in a âreturn to what wasâ way.
5. A view down Rua de D Perdo V.
6. The bustling city center of Porto
7. Capela do Senhar DâAlem (seen also in the background of photo 1)
8. Garden of the Moors. This park above Porto was a magical place to be at dusk. You could see the whole world and just watch the sun set over it. It was packed.
9. A view from the park.
10. and 11. A different angle, this was a view from atop a place called the Crystal Palace, located in the Crystal Palace Gardens. The Crystal Palace is a large dome-shaped event center that you can actually climb to the top of, offering 360Âş views of Porto.
12. A sunset shot of the Ponte de Arrabida. I love a city full of bridges.

INTERNATIONAL COMIC STORES TIME!
I visited Kingpin Books in Lisbon. This comic store had an incredible layout and design! I couldnât stop staring at it. Loved the open floor plan. Tons of merch. A LOT of cool books from Europe that US stores donât carry. I do think the wall of Funko would be better suited to MORE comics. But the tailor-made wall art canât be beat. It elevates the space like nothing else.
I am taking notesâŚ
Would love to hear what shops youâve visited and LOVE!! Whoâs got the best layout?

Faro, Portugal - photo dump!
Wanted to get somewhere quieter for the second week abroad - especially after the cacophony that was Lisbon. Wound up in Faro, Algarve, Portugal, and mistakenly stayed a little ways out of town at a golf resort. It wound up being a good choice. Very relaxing. Not a lot of people around. But. It much commerce either. Everything was a ride-share away.
1. Walking along the lake near the BnB in Amancil, Portugal
2. Downtown Faro
3. Melbourne Lane Cafe. I spent a few afternoons here, further developing 2 different WIPs
4. - 6. Old Town. Faro's picturesque Old Town is made up of cobbled streets and squares within a medieval wall.
7. One of MANY impressive (though, admittedly garish) displays within the Catedral de Faro
8. - 10. Views of Faro from the top of the cathedral
11. Easily one of the best meals Iâve ever had
12. Didnât eat here, but the sign got me. đ¤đź
13. I loved how the evening sunset covered this building with the trees
14. Leaving Oldtown
15. Overcast beauty in Amancil
The city of Faro was small, and filled with old architecture and history. I really found it quite peaceful.

While traveling through Portugal these past few weeks, Iâve barely written a word. Then one cloudy day in Porto, I cracked open my laptop and, knowing how limited my time at the laptop was, had one of the most clarifying moments Iâve had as a writer in years.
Check it out in my latest blog, now up.
We cha about writing on vacation, what Dr. Robby from The Pitt cracked open in me, and why starting is still the hardest â and most important â thing you can do.

7. Sintra streets
8. - 11. Moorish Castle
(10. View of the Palace of Sintra from the Moorish Castle)
12. The Moorish Castle as seen from the National Palace of Pena
13. - 16. National Palace of Pena
