There’s so much going on in the world and you never know what people are dealing with. If there’s a friend you stayed connected with, checking on them is great but sometimes, being able to be around them can be healing for both of you.
I’m not a Florida fan by any means but being able to connect with @lev.levim in Miami and roadtripping to key west. I needed this trip! We only did what we wanted to do, did so much talking, and learned from each other, and compared our lived experiences.
Even when the world is literally on fire, it was nice to stop time for a moment and have genuine human connection.

Feb 7, 1987 - I was born! This was just the first part of my 2024 B-day celebration. I don’t know what it is about birthdays but I’ve never really taken the time to celebrate myself in a real way.
I decided this year would be different cuz the reality is I’ve been through so much in this life. I’ve been through things that most people will never understand and a lot of things that I’ve never shared and I’m still here. Not just standing but thriving.
So I’m celebrating me all month, plus it’s black history month so I’m celebrating my birth, my strength, and my blackness!

1. Her strength: she’s been through more in this one lifetime than most could fathom, but still lights up a room with her smile.
2. Her Brilliance: she is the person I go to when I don’t have an answer for life’s nuances. She never fails to provide clarity and solutions.
3. Her fierceness: DON’T FUCK WITH HER.
4. Her Acceptance and understanding: she is the reason I can be a non-judgmental and safe space for the people in my life. She taught me that.
5. She’s my mommy: in this life we have all been at least 7 different people. She’s been my mommy for most of her adult life and every version of her that I get to experience has been, to say the least, a thing of beauty.
