Last week’s 38th Annual Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs (OAME)Trade Show & Awards Luncheon was something special… From the theme, “Different Roots, Shared Growth,” to the energy in the room and OAME’s powerful reminder that “EVERYBODY’S IN, NOBODY’S OUT!”💛 — the entire event felt rooted in community, connection, and opportunity. (And yes… we’re still thinking about that catchy custom #OAME song “The Power of We”!)🙌 #BDIpdx loved being part of the trade show and connecting with so many businesses, partners, and community leaders doing meaningful work across the region. We’re also incredibly proud to celebrate two award winners from the BDI membership community: 👏 👏 Berrien Concrete LLC and 👏 👏 Agape Community Insurance Agency. Seeing our members recognized for their leadership and impact made the day even more special. Thank you, 🙏 OAME, for creating such a welcoming and inspiring space. We’re already looking forward to next year! Cheers!

#SmallBusinessWeek is the perfect time to recognize the drive, resilience, and impact of local entrepreneurs. Today, we’re excited to introduce BDI Member @JessicaMillican of @MomentumProcurementGroup (MPG). Jessica’s career is a clear example of what being driven really looks like. From day one, she’s pushed herself to learn, grow, and exceed expectations—even when others didn’t see the potential right away. She began her customer service journey at RadioShack in 2001, starting in an entry-level role and quickly rising through the ranks. Within three years, she helped turn one of the lowest-performing stores in the district into the #1 location. In a largely male-dominated environment, where expectations for a young woman were often low, Jessica stayed focused. She learned every product, every service, and leaned into every opportunity to lead. Her drive wasn’t just about proving others wrong—it was about proving to herself what was possible. That mindset carried forward. After investing in her growth through leadership training with Dale Carnegie, Jessica joined MPG in 2010 in a support role. Within two years, she stepped into managing key accounts and began building her own book of business. Today, she thrives on building relationships and working with a team and company she truly believes in. Like many small business leaders, Jessica wears a lot of hats. Recently, MPG has taken on major operational changes, including a new backend system, website, and expanded services. The challenge has been real—but so has her response. By getting organized, embracing new project management tools, and learning to delegate and ask for help sooner, she’s kept the business moving forward. MPG is a woman-owned, minority-owned, family-run business, and that foundation is what drives Jessica most. Built alongside her mother-in-law and now joined by other family members, the vision is clear: grow sustainably, expand services, and create something that lasts for generations. Jessica is driven not just by success but by building something meaningful, together. BDI is member-focused and community-driven. Visit our website at bdiworks.org to explore Membership levels.

Day 2 is going strong at BDI’s #LeadershipRecharge Conference! We’re diving into the New York Times bestseller Thanks for the Feedback by Douglas Stone & Sheila Heen, guided by BDI board members Nina Jones & Kimberly Sutton and the awesome Paula Tappan SPHR, SHRM-SCP of Fortis Construction who led the session, Leadership Trifecta: Delegation without losing control. Everyone’s exploring the art and science of receiving feedback well…so far, so good. And being at the coast doesn’t hurt either—always refreshing! 🌊 Let’s see what Day 3 brings!
