When I moved to Myrtle Beach from Atlanta GA @taylor.dorothea was one of the first people I met. Picked up a job at @andyowingsmusic where Dorothea was a regular. (She still is!) We became great friends and both watched as her unbelievable road to success was born! So proud to be her friend and from one fellow drummer to another, there is nobody else that is more deserving of success than her! ⚠️So I recently got my first YouTube copyright strike in several years and honestly, I’m still scratching my head over it.
The video in question was my AI reggae drum cover of Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses. Not a straight drum cover, but an AI transformation of it as a reggae song. Aside from the lyrics, which are yes copywritten, it is a completely different sounding arrangement.
Someone at Universal Music Publishing Group deliberately went out of their way to manually flag my video and put a strike on my channel.
Here’s what gets me, go search “Sweet Child O’ Mine drum cover” on YouTube right now. You’ll find hundreds of them sitting there completely untouched. But they came after my small channel with an AI-transformed reggae version that sounds nothing like the original.
So in celebration of this nonsense, I’ve decided to post the full video right here for all of you to enjoy. You’re welcome, UMPG. 🥁🎵
