If you’ve followed our music journey for a while, especially back to where it all started in our hometown of Northville, Michigan, you’ve probably heard us joke and call ourselves the “NORTHVILLAINS” before. Our plan from the start was to make an album together and name it after our hometown, but back then we took it a lot less serious. There has been multiple version of this album dating back to 2021 even. The final version was all recorded in November 2024 (except Travis Hunter, that was a few months later)
Eventually through this mission, I (Borca) realized I had lots of interest in the side of engineering and producing side of music. When Bdab told me he was moving to Chicago at the start of 2024 and needed a roommate, I was quick to jump on the opportunity to try and make my dream into a career. I ended up attending SAE institute and meeting lots of very important people in my life that also helped shape our sound into what it is today🙏
I’m proud to say that we both chopped every sample on this album. Sampling is a big part of our sound, a lot of our biggest influences, like J Dilla, Kanye, NO ID, or DOOM also use sampling as a big part of their sound. Honestly DOOM is a big inspiration for all of this, and the “NORTHVILLAINS” name is a subtle nod to him and his legacy.
As I’ve been trying to shape my career as an engineer and a producer, in the back of my mind there’s been one goal in mind, and it’s finishing and perfecting this album. But being honest, I could make tweaks forever on this (especially the more I learn about engineering) but eventually we just need to let the people hear it, we can’t sit on this project any longer 😭
Anyways we can’t wait for you guys to finally hear it and everything else we got planned for this year 👀
