BCVI was overflowing today with patients for our visiting Retinal Specialist Dr Inder Singal 👀🫶
In addition to treating patients in Belize for more than 15 years, Dr Singal has donated essential equipment and contributed full Scholarships in Optometry, Medicine and Ophthalmology - including Dr Kiria Mayen, our first full-time, Belizean surgical Ophthalmologist in more than 20 years! 👩⚕️
We are immensely thankful for the generosity and compassion Dr Singal continues to show for our Belizean people and the country's national eye care programme. 🇧🇿

What an incredible week that we had in Belize! Two of our senior residents @annie1yan and @christine_hilll_ went with Dr. Barnwell @lizeyloo318 , where they spent the week seeing patients and completing 23 cataract surgeries over the course of 3 days. Many thanks to @bcvi for inviting us and supporting us - the experiences and the friends we have made along the way will stay with us for a lifetime! Congratulations to @kirz_myn for getting her license - we look forward to seeing all the wonderful care you will provide for these lovely patients.

We had the honor of welcoming Dr. Yu-Lin Huang, Secretary General of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), to BCVI, where we reflected on years of collaboration —from FEMH’s annual surgical missions to the introduction of AI-supported fundus imaging that is already strengthening our diabetic retinopathy programme.💻
What stood out most in our discussions was a shared commitment to the future: investing in people through training, strengthening systems through better data, and expanding access through innovation. With the addition of two new cameras, including a handheld unit, we are taking another step toward reaching Belizeans who need us most—particularly those in more remote areas. 👩⚕️
This is what sustainable impact looks like: partnership, trust, and a collective vision for a stronger national eye care programme in Belize.🤓
