Music Meeting 2026 trapt op 22 mei af in Doornroosje met Celebrate Africa, een avond vol Afrikaanse live-muziek en sounds.
De Nigeriaanse multi-instrumentalist Mádé Kuti, kleinzoon van de legendarische Fela Kuti, maakt hier zijn Nederlandse debuut. Zijn frisse interpretatie van Afrobeat wordt mooi aangevuld door de rauwe punk-energie, vermengd met hiphop, funk en traditionele ritmes uit Zuid-Afrika door BCUC. “Without a doubt the best live act I saw.” volgens fan en gerenommerde Britse DJ Gilles Peterson. De veelzijdige Senegalese producer IBAAKU brengt de urban vibe van Dakar, terwijl lokaal talent OUMY meeslepende grooves uit hetzelfde land met sprankelende indie folk presenteert.

De origens humildes, ensaiando num contentor de transporte a poucos passos da igreja onde Desmond Tutu organizou a fuga dos ativistas anti-apartheid mais procurados de Soweto, os BCUC cresceram e tornaram-se numa banda aclamada, atuando nos maiores palcos de alguns dos festivais mais importantes do mundo: Glastonbury, Roskilde, Afropunk Brooklyn, Dour, Worldwide, Womad, Fusion, Sziget, FMM Sines, Beaches Brew, Boomtown, Colours of Ostrava, Couleur Café.

It’s International Jazz Day and worldwide talent plays a key role in this year’s festival. From South Africa, seven-piece BCUC will bring their Soweto sounds of indigenous funk, hip-hop consciousness and punk rock energy to Òran Mór on Thu 11 Jun. 🎟️
