Synopsis:
Retired schoolteacher, Eleanor Bannister of Groverdell, TX is resolute in her independence as a life-long single woman. When a hole in her roof draws the attention of Abel Brown, the unexpected sparks of late-in-life romance start to fly and her controlled demeanor begins to crumble, proving that itâs never too late for first love.
Characters:
Eleanor Bannister
Female, 65+
A retired schoolteacher who enjoys her position as a small, Texas townâs most respected woman. Never married, she lives quietly and is comfortable in her status and the routines of her life. She is controlled and dignified.
Abel BrownÂ
Male, 65+Â
New to town, he is a charming drifter with a twinkle in his eye. He speaks with the laconic charm of a world-weary poker player â amiable, calm, self-possessed, and a little cocky. Â
Grace Bodell
Female, 65+Â
Eleanorâs nosy neighbor. Grace continually inserts herself into Eleanorâs life from her good heart, and a place of concern for her friend. She is casual without pretension. Â
Eugene ClaymireÂ
Male, 35-45
Eleanorâs former student, who is now a local police officer. He is sweet and genuinely concerned about the wellbeing of his former teacher
Since 1927, Bakersfield Community Theatre has helmed works that encourage diversity and inclusivity, promoted local artists, and focused on the community aspects of theatre. While some scripts call for specific character guidelines, people of all ages, races, ethnicities, gender identities, and physical abilities are encouraged to audition. BCT is a safe and inclusive place, and we take pride in the connection to our community.
