STORY TIME! This photo is from 2006, but it’s finally applicable today, almost 20 years later.
I was 22 and a couple classes away from graduating when, after winning my first VMA, I made the bold (slightly questionable) decision to drop out of college to chase a producing career that finally seemed to be gaining traction.
The school (either out of kindness or confusion, still not sure) let me walk with my class. Cap, gown, photos, the whole ceremony. I totally looked the part, except for that little thing where I never really actually…graduated.
Well…I finally finished. Two decades, a couple kids, and a shit ton of life later, I went back and wrapped it up. I felt like Adam Sandler in Billy Madison.
Sooooo, yes, it took me 20 years to finish 3 classes. Some people run marathons, I just decided to take the scenic route.
Thanks to everyone who nudged me to close the loop (ahem…@thelmavickroy ). Degree in hand now, for real this time…
