Unused police body armour has been repurposed and built into vehicles to help save lives in the Ukraine War.
Thames Valley Police said the kit that "no longer aligns with current UK policing requirements" had been used by emergency responders working in conflict-affected areas of the country.
In one incident, armour fitted to an evacuation vehicle absorbed the blast from a drone attack, enabling two casualties and two crew members to survive.
Instead of staying in storage or being sent to landfill, the initiative had already saved the force "thousands" of pounds as it did not have to pay for disposal, it added.

Neighbours have been reacting after a man was shot dead by police during an armed stand-off.
Police said they had tried to negotiate with the 41-year-old, who had "barricaded" himself inside a house on Aylesbury Road, Bedford, but armed officers fired after they said he had presented a weapon from a window at about 09:30 BST on Tuesday.
The Bedfordshire force was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has started an investigation.
The man was declared dead shortly before 10:30 and a non-police-issue firearm was found inside the property, the watchdog has said.
IOPC director Emily Barry said: "We have met with the man's family to explain our role and they will be kept updated as our investigation progresses.
"Our investigation is in its early stages, but we are working quickly to obtain and review evidence as we investigate the actions and decision-making of the officers involved."

Video game character Lara Croft has spent three decades raiding tombs across the globe in her quest to find valuable lost artefacts.
Little does she know that a real Tomb Raider treasure trove can be found in a spare bedroom in Milton Keynes.
There, Amy Dyson, 33, keeps 341 individually boxed games from the franchise, guarded by a life-sized statue of Lara herself hiding in the corner of the room.
The collection ranges from a boxed copy of the first game, released in 1996, to imported copies of the most recent releases from Japan alongside posters, toothbrushes, skateboards and more.
This carefully curated hoard earned Amy a Guinness World Record, external last summer for the largest collection of Tomb Raider video games, back when she had a mere 291 games in her collection.

An award-winning photographer who spent 20 years taking pictures of celebrities and royalty at the Cannes Film Festival said they were days he “will never forget”.
Richard Blanshard first arrived in Cannes as a 22-year-old in 1976, and went on to snap stars such as Muhammad Ali and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Blanshard, who was born in Essex and now lives in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, said Ali was a “wonderful character” who never objected to having his picture taken, but his entourage were like the “mafia”.
King Charles III and Princess Diana visited Cannes in 1987.
“When I look back at the images now, it seems clear to me that Charles and Diana’s relationship wasn’t in the best place,” he said.
“Photography is about storytelling and capturing the moment and also making people comfortable to achieve what you need without them even knowing,” he added.
