Brett Beaudry is a street photographer from the Bay Area, he works as a salesman by day and photographing by night. He picked up a camera in 2020 during the lockdowns and gravitated toward San Francisco, the buildings, the mix of people, the weather. His photographs lean heavily on dramatic lighting and often have a noir quality. Lately he’s been pushing into different territory, working with harsh daylight and long shadows during trips to Chicago. He is inspired by films, citing Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver as a go-to soundtrack while shooting, and aims to replicate the emotions and cinematic frames from movies in his photography. He shoots alone, which lets him work at his own pace, and he prefers a 35mm focal length for how it handles urban spaces. He shoots often, without overthinking it. For him, the work is personal.
