The bands at BJH and BHS had the opportunity to learn from an award-winning composer this week. Richard Saucedo, who had a brief residency at Lindbergh High School, came to Bayless to conduct and teach. Saucedo is a former band teacher from Indianapolis, composes songs for a variety of companies, and was a colleague of John Williams at one point. #BringTheStampede

Bayless Schools will dismiss students early on Monday, April 27, 2026, due to dangerous expected weather conditions forecast for the region this afternoon. Dismissal times will be as follows: Bayless Junior High and Bayless High School will dismiss at 1 PM. Bayless Elementary and Bayless Early Childhood Center will dismiss at 1:45 PM. There will be no half-day preschool PM classes. The decision to release early was not an easy one, but was made after consultation with the National Weather Service, our transportation providers and other area school leaders. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure everyone’s safety during severe weather events.

Building a Better Bayless is how we operate. Last night, the Bayless community passed Proposition I with over 80% of the vote. We already are hard at work making Prop I an initiative to carry us forward.

Proposition I, a no tax rate increase bond issue on the ballot Tuesday, April 7, would fund a wide range of improvements. If passed, many classrooms will be renovated, and aging HVAC systems at Bayless Elementary would be replaced, all in an effort to make spaces for students to learn and be ready for college and careers after they graduate.

Proposition I, a no tax rate increase bond issue, is on the ballot Tuesday, April 7. Among many infrastructure improvements, Proposition I would fund construction of a Student and Community Activity and Learning Center built into the hillside behind the High School and Junior High, connecting our campus to Bayless Field. This is not simply an athletic facility — it’s a flexible, multi-use building designed to serve students, families, and neighbors across academics, athletics, the arts, wellness, and community enrichment. The center would include a modern storm shelter for students and community, a multipurpose activity space, elevated indoor track, ADA-accessible weight room, performance studio, flexible classroom space, and restrooms and concessions for Bayless Field — all without displacing programs from our existing gymnasiums. Every afternoon, teams and programs compete for the same gym floors. Dance and cheer practice in cafeterias and hallways. Our students are making it work — but they deserve better. Engaged students show stronger outcomes in the classroom and better preparation for life beyond graduation. Activities matter. Space to support them matters too.
