📍8800 Cabrillo Highway Montara, CA 94037
🚘 Every time we drove along scenic Highway 1 between Pacifica - Half Moon Bay, we’d see the small lighthouse from afar, but for some reason we thought it wasn’t open to the public. But this time, we decided to stop and check it out, and we were surprised and charmed. Yes, it’s a bit off the highway and not as well-known as Pigeon Point, but it’s no less interesting: historic lighthouse, beautiful coastal location, hostel with stunning ocean views, beach access.
🧭 Directions. On Highway 1, seven miles north of Half Moon Bay and one-half mile south of Montara, look for American Youth Hostel signs on the west side of the road which will take you to the lighthouse. The hostel grounds are open from 9 a.m. to sunset.
🧐 Originally established in 1875 as a fog signal station after several ships ran ashore in the late 1860s, this historic lighthouse and hostel is still an operating aid-to-navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

One of the best cheeky holiday pop-up bars is back for its 9th year in San Francisco! This year, Deck the Halls has unveiled a “naughty candy shack” in the heart of the Castro.
Not only are they back with cute, festive, and dirty cocktails (with many that can be made as non-alcoholic mocktails), but they’ve also launched all-you-can-eat weekend brunch! From Friday-Sunday (11am-4pm), you can feast on all your favorite brunch items, including a build-your-own parfait station.
My favorite holiday cocktails were their Resting Grinch Face (with matcha) and their Nut Nog.
🔥 This is one of the few holiday bars that also has outdoor seating (with fire pits and adorable candy stools).
