Cooking & Eating Better Together Bath Community Kitchen (BCK) uses communal meals and cookery workshops to improve people’s physical and mental wellbeing in Bath and surrounding areas. We believe that cookery and sharing food is one of the most powerful therapeutic and educational tools to improve mental and physical wellbeing. Our vision is for more people in Bath to have opportunities to cook and eat together, to have access to delicious, healthy and affordable food, and be equipped with the skills to cook well for themselves, creating lasting change in our community.

About Bath Community Kitchen's Communal Meals: Nothing forms community ties better than eating together. We bring people together with high quality, low or zero-cost meals on a “pay-what-you-can” model, alleviating social isolation, loneliness and hunger. We deliver these across BANES with a focus in areas of highest deprivation and where possible, using surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill.

We’re so excited to be part of @forestofimagination again this year 🌳 It’s has special place in our hearts as it’s where @bathcommunitykitchen first started a few years ago. In June, we’ll be back in the glorious space at Entry Hill with a workshop exploring community, connection and the amazing things that happen when we sit together around a shared table. Make sure you have @forestofimagination in your diary! 📍 13 - 21 June 📍Entry Hill, Bath

Let’s hear it for one of our kitchen hero recipes - yoghurt flatbreads! Super simple, quick and fun to make, they’re perfect to whip up with soups and salads, to scoop up delicious dips or top with your favourite flavours - we served them Greek style with halloumi at last week’s community meal! Fresh bread without the wait 🤩 👩‍🍳 Recipe Equal weight of plain yogurt (natural, greek or plant-based) and self-raising flour (gluten free works too) with a pinch of salt. 150g of each makes approx 5 flatbreads. Mix the flour and yogurt together in a bowl until you have a rough dough. Tip the mix out onto a worktop, lightly sprinkled with flour. Use your hands to bring the dough together into a smooth ball. Divide your dough into individual balls, about the size of a small orange. Use your hands or a rolling pin to stretch and flatted each piece so it’s like a mini pizza base. Cook each flatbread in a hot, dry frying pan and flip over once it starts to toast on one side - a couple of minutes each side. Enjoy! X #bathcommunitykitchen #everyoneiswelcome

A busy kitchen is a happy kitchen! Last week was packed with lovely people, big flavours, lively conversations and community connections as we cooked alongside one another and sat together around the table. On Monday we started a new series of family cooking workshops at St Andrew’s Community Church in Foxhill. We cooked with young adults and @foyer_federation on Tuesday, exploring flavours from Sichuan. On Wednesday at @thecookerystudiobath we had a kitchen table conversation and brunch with Bath based design studio and BCK supporters @sunhousecreative - thank you 🙏 That was followed by our community meal in Radstock - over 50 people came to enjoy a meal and each other’s company and some springtime flavours. Thursday’s community meal in Twerton was a lively one too and our superstar volunteers and helpers made orange and hazelnut salad, posh beans on toast, Emma’s shortbread with fruit salad and rose water cream. Breadmaking with young people at @youthconnectsouthwest on Friday set us up for the weekend and our workshop with Ukrainian refugees in Bath on Saturday, exploring tasty plant-based recipes with Kelly. Brilliant! And we’re raring to go again this week 🤩 #bathcommunitykitchen #communitykitchen #everyoneiswelcome

We love creating space for people to come together to cook, eat, chat and connect - it’s a magic mix that nourishes community. We recently shared our updated impact report with many of our generous supporters and funders. Here is a little taste of Bath Community Kitchen’s impact and you can read the full report on our website to get a flavour of BCK. We hope it’s a snapshot into everything we do and why. Some of our regular guests at our community meals and workshops have also generously shared their reflections. You can find the link to our website in our bio. Thank you for your support 🧡 #bathcommunitykitchen #everyoneiswelcome

Starting the week as we mean to go on! Today was the first in a series of family cooking workshops in Fox Hill 🍅 🧅🥕 Together we cooked a veggie cottage pie, a mixed salad with a zesty dressing and chocolate and walnut cookies 🍪 Putting a fresh spin on some family favourites and finding fun ways to get the goodness in with healthy and affordable recipes. Get in touch with a DM or email if you’d like to find out more about these workshops. They’re very relaxed and suitable for everyone from complete beginners to those looking for some new ideas for their family! #bathcommunitykitchen #everyoneiswelcome

Last night’s supper in Radstock! Here’s what we made... 🥣 Starter - A box of surplus broccoli turned into a delicious soup, served with mustard cheese toasts. 🍳 Main - Donated potatoes, red onions and squash became a super tasty frittata with roasted squash and spring greens. 🍊 To finish - Pink grapefruit and yoghurt sundae with seeds and honey. TONIGHT @ 6:15pm We will be at our usual spot - The Lighthouse Centre, Twerton Not sure what’s on the menu yet... it all comes together once we’ve picked up the donated produce. That’s the magic of it! #bathcommunitykitchen #communitykitchen #eatingbettertogether
