Outside for a few minutes on one of the murkiest of May Gray days - so interesting it always seems to be the dad House Finches feeding babies..Even if you are buried in paperwork - it's so important to get outside and see what's really important!
I can do this in my sleep....Allen's hummingbird. By the way - neither Merlin nor Heiku Box can distinguish Allen's from Rufous Hummingbirds. I have actually been looking right at the Allen's while Merlin is telling me it is Rufous. We have had Rufous - but very rare. Interested in thoughts from others @sfvaudubon or @cornellbirds
Valley Carpenter Bee covered with pollen - and very beat up. She decided to sit on me for a while before targeting the thistle. @xercessociety Love these big girls!
California Towhee baby now has real tail feathers and can fly to the roof!!! It can adeptly pull mulch into the sidewalk to make a mess. Love thesae guys!
Owlet was tiny and in the nest on March 18 when our @sfvaudubon Birds & Beer group visited the area. Here it is growing horns! It recently fledged the nest tree. Poor thing is an only owlet - sad it doesn't have siblings. But it is very engaged watching the golfers and all the activity far beneath its perch.
