The latest on Iran, Trump’s statement on the 3 American troops KIA, and how Congress couldn’t bother to interrupt their weekend to address the whole unauthorized war with Iran thing. I joined MSNow’s The Weekend Primetime tonight. I’ll have more tomorrow on TV, possibly on MSNow with Maddow, and on a new Independent Americans every day this week. I’ll break down not just what’s happening, but also, what’ll happen next. Stay vigilant out there. Especially now. 🎙️🇺🇸🚨

“I was 12 and 16 years old, watching from my living room as Jesse Jackson stood at the podium at the Democratic National Convention and told Democrats in the room they were not being inclusive enough of people who look like him, who might look like me.” @basilanthony reflects on the influence and legacy of civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has died at 84.

We ARE Black History…this month and every month. President Barack Obama proclaimed. As CBAA celebrates our 50th Anniversary, we are proud to honor Dr. Basil Smikle. Jr. who masterfully connects Black Cornellians across multiple generations. Dr. Basil Smikle Jr. (ILR ’93) is a Professor of Practice and Director of the graduate program in nonprofit management in the School of Professional Studies at Columbia University. And as an MS NOW (formerly MSNBC) Political Analyst, he regularly shares his insights on local and national policy and electoral politics. With over 20 years in higher education and 30 years of public service, he has shaped civic engagement, nonprofit advocacy, electoral politics, and education policy across New York and the nation. His leadership has earned him the New York Urban League Community Service Award, the Bronx Branch NAACP W.E.B. Du Bois Scholar Award, the Ally of Justice Award from The Bronx Defenders, accolades from his beloved Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., citations from the Governor and Comptroller of New York State, and a Proclamation from the New York City Council recognizing his unwavering commitment to public service and educational equity. Previously, he was appointed by former Governor David Paterson to serve as Executive Director of the New York State Democratic Party, becoming the “second highest ranking Democrat” in the state. Basil also served as a senior aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton during her tenure in the U.S. Senate, advising on statewide policy and political strategy. His work and collaboration had a lasting impact on New York State, with Mrs. Clinton praising him as a “key advisor and tremendous public servant committed to ensuring all voices are heard.” Basil holds a PhD in Politics and Education and an MPA from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. He serves as a Trustee of The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and sits on the boards of the Center for Charter Excellence, The Opportunity Charter School in Harlem, Oliver Scholars, and The Association to Benefit Children. #BlackHistoryMonth #CBAA50 #CornellBlackAlumni #CornellUniversity #LegacyImpact 🖤❤️💚
